It shifts smooth when its not jerking . Checked something off this topic hope its ok . Is the fluid in the transfer case suppose to be purple ? I have read about a coupling in there that can cause problems . Does anyone know what will happen if this breaks ?

When the viscous coupler leaks its silicone based viscous fluid it looks like clear shampoo globbed at the bottom of the case. No difference in driving performance but noticeable lack of resistance connecting output yokes. It can displace fluid and starve bearings to ruin the case. I doubt that's your issue by your description.

Was wondering if you ever tried the lubeguard that you spoke of? The trans shop that my son took his 96 f-150 to put a can of it in his trans when he was having the same type problem and the problem went away. They did however recommend he put a can of it in every year or ten thousand miles. Still way cheaper then a rebuild.

It is awesome stuff. Just make sure you get the correct one for what you're working on. They have at least 4 different ones
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
