The timing should be about perfect. I'm taking apart a stock Eagle motor and a Mercruiser 2.5L and doing a tangible comparison once I catch up with the other pressing projects, including the TBI work. I'll have much more information available to you in the upcoming months.

Nice Scout! I'm a Scout II guy with a 1980 Traveler. It's getting AMC running gear in its future and the current engine will end up in an Eagle. It's very familiar territory because of how similar IH and AMC vehicles are. They even directly worked together many times in their past with AMC 401s and 258s being factory installed on many Scouts and Travelalls over the years. I think it is as appropriate to talk to about an XJ as a Scout here on the Eagle forum because they are both very close relatives.

If you have any problems or questions about your Scout, the guy I bought my Traveler from is restoring an identical Scout as yours. He also has been the President of a huge Scout club in my area for decades. He's the guy to ask anything. He has an older Scout like yours and an AMC 4.0 MPI injected Scout II as his main driver.

Capt, Thanks for the info.

before I bought this scout, I owned a 1959 International pickup.  When I bought the scout I purchased a full shop manual for it.  I have literally touched every part on that truck during the rebuild.  The manual explains how to rebuild just about every single thing on the truck, even the windshield washer motor and pump.

All I had to do was clean and paint most of the parts, they were in such good shape.

Anyway, thanks to all for the compliments.  My next project is the 1960 F100.  Its a good runner but I want to freshen it up a bit.

I have a great appreciation of old International Harvesters too. My dad owned a Scout II before I was born and when my parents moved to a farm when I was born there was a 1951 IH L-130 I think it was... It was a rusty flat bed dually with wooden side walls. One of my oldest memories is of my dad driving it to the spot were it spent the rest of it's life on our property. As a kid I always hoped to one day fix it up. I even started to once I was a teenager...well I started taking things off of it. Like the rotting wood on the bed. The bust bench seat. My parents split up when I was like 16 and when I went to college my mom sold the house/property. In the deal the next owners asked that the truck be removed before they moved in. I tried selling it locally, but couldn't find anybody interested. It finally came down to the week of move in and we just called a local guy that sells old vehicles from some property right off the highway and he came out and picked it up for free. I passed it many times on my way to and from college and one day it was gone. I hope he found a buyer that treated it well!

Prafeston,  I really like the black and white pics of that truck.  Would you mind if I printed and hung those in my Office?
