Title: Brake Booster Removal Question
Post by: jrpentolino on July 18, 2021, 11:01:54 PM
I'm pulling the brake booster so I can rebuild my clutch master cylinder. There are four nuts that hold the booster to the mount that comes off the firewall. Three were no sweat. I have been working on freeing the fourth for two days with no luck. It is the bottom left bolt.

I cannot get it from the bottom. Well....maybe I could if I removed the front axle and possibly the exhaust but that seems a bit excessive.

From the top, I have tried everything I can think of but I can't get a wrench on it, can't get a socket on it, and even if I could the electrical coming out of the firewall would prevent me from turning a wrench.

Perhaps if that electrical were unplugged somehow I could get to it. But it's packed with grease (I would imagine to protect the connectors) and I can't see a way to remove it. And I'm so afraid of breaking a delicate plastic retainer.

If you've done this job before and have some advise for getting that bolt, I'd greatly appreciate it. I tried to take a pic but couldn't get it. But I figure if you've done this before, it had to be an unforgettable pain for you as well.

Thanks!

Take the 4 adapter bracket bolts off under the dash, then remove the whole assembly.  Then take off the adapter bolts on the workbench.

That was the trick! I didn't think that was the way initially as those nuts also hold the petal assembly to the firewall. But that was absolutely the way to go. Thank you for the sage advise!!
