I'm rather unfamiliar with the 4.0 exhaust system, I haven't swapped heads yet nor have I located one, but I need one. Ive done research, Tim Weavers 4.0 swap guide is very useful, but it never addresses the EGR, nor do I see it in any of his photos. Mines plugged with a gob of epoxy, but its still installed and hooked up for inspections, it just doesn't do anything. I plan to use either the dual cast iron manifold or the header that goes three into two, then two into one so I can split it and have mean sounding duals on an inline (sounds like a big-block on some)
I'm not sure how or where the EGR will hook up when I combine the stock 258 intake with the 4.0 exhaust. I'm sure it has an EGR, I just dont know its set up. What did you other guys with 4.0 heads do?
91+ 4.0L don't have an EGR, I blocked mine at the intake.
Correct.
The duals sound awesome. Mine feed into cherry bombs.
lol i was about to say, wheres the effin egr? never seen one on a jeep :D
Hooray! down with smog pumps and EGR's everywhere
The early non-HO engines (Renix) had a tube running from a bung on the exhaust manifold to the intake. Do an image search for "Renix exhaust manifold" and you'll get some pictures.
You could easily fab up a fake tube, and no one would be the wiser.

Ah!, but I can also claim it an update to a 93 4.0 engine since that's what the head came off of, and unless they are a Jeep Guru, they wont know the wiser, and if they were, and did, they wouldn't say anything. ;D

Then you would have to meet the emission numbers of the 93 engine which may be a tougher to meet.
I'm getting ready to swap out my dead 998 (snapped converter neck) with NP129 for an AW4/NP242 combo. When I do the EFI swap, I'm not concerned about the emission issue, but the HO intake isn't supposed to fit next to the Eagle brake booster without mods. Anyone try yet?

A valid concern for some, but since (A) Im not in an area that uses a sniffer, and (B) since Im running E-85 instead of unleaded, Ill pass with numbers so low they will think their machine is broken. so Im ok all around. But I am considering a HOT port injected mechanical fuel injection system that completely vaporizes the fuel instead of sprays it ( Ive been researching the 100 mpg car thing from the 50's and 60's, And I might have figured it out) But Im still wotrking on the flux capacitor, and cant quite reach 88 mph yet ;D
The HO intake manifold WILL fit next to the brake booster. I will tell you this though, it is easier to install both manifolds on the head or engine before you install it in the vehicle. If for any reason you have to take the intake off in the car, remove the exhaust manifold too, or you will have a hard time getting it on the two mounting pins and risk tearing your gasket in the process.
