The picture didn't open for me.  Here is some info that may be helpful.
Most of us use free Photobucket accounts.
www.photobucket.com
We recommend clicky pics.  This is a thumbnail picture that enlarges when clicked.
Photobucket has made a change in the way you copy the code.
Here is the way it looks to me:
For a single clicky pic, hover over the picture.  This will open a drop down menu.  Click on the fourth window, img.
It will then say "copied".
Go to the thread where you want to put the picture and paste it in.
For multiple clicky pics, hover over the pictures and click on the small box at the bottom of the picture.
Scroll down and click on "Choose action".  Click "Generate code for selected".
This will open another page.  Click on the third box, "IMG for bulletin boards & forums".  It will say "copied".  Paste it into the thread of your choice.
In both instances you can select "Preview" to make sure it is what you want before you post it.

Looks like a fine Eagle daily driver candidate.  Good Luck!

The roof rack needs to be pulled off and the roof cleaned up. Every mounting spot for the rack is rusted through. The headliners junk but the floor boards and unibody all look pretty good. Its at a "used car dealer"(3 old cars and a garage with a sign on it written in sharpie) but no body is ever around so I took it upon my self to open the one working door and pop the hood. Looks really good there too except for belts and hoses are rotted. Drivers seat is worn out and much of the plastic is faded and fragile but i want it.

Yea, just keep lingering around and maybe leave some notes on his doorstep or try to locate a number to call the guy.  Just be persistent, and eventually you'll track the guy down.

the places to look on an eagle are the sections of frame that curve down behind the wheels (doglegs), the floorboards, and the rocker panels.  If those areas are rotten and you don't think you have it in you to repair (anything off by as little as 3-6 millimeters can really mess up the way the car drives).  Good luck with your hunt and like I tell everyone "when looking at an eagle to purchase it is best to just stand on your head"

persistance pays off... appearently i was just annoying enough that i finally got a phone call today from the guy that owns this eagle. his price is a bit more than my top dollar(within 300) but i am confident that we can reach an agreement. how ever... these are some things i found out.

the good...

I WANT IT!!!
antifreeze is green and full
dog legs are good
floor boards look good
has alluminum valve cover
he says it runs and drives good

the bad...

no keys(door or ign.)
no starter(m.i.a.)
i havent heard it run
needs a whole mess of vaccum lines(there but cracked)
needs a pcv and grommet
someone tried to excise the catalytic converter but failed
only one wiper on the front
three broken door handles
power everything and no power to try it all

any pointers from the older and wiser?

My advice? Walk away, unless it is right about scrap price. Sounds like it needs quite a bit of work. You can spend a little bit more and get something that runs. I'd like to see them all saved, but sometimes it doesn't make economical sense.
Title: Re: My current obsession!
Post by: brentsydlik on May 20, 2011, 07:05:13 PM
im not spending money til i hear it run... and my top dollar is about $100.00 over scrap price. hes askin $700 but im only gonna give him $500 at the most. figuring that scrap here is $220 a ton with a title and doubt its over 2 tons. im gonna try for about $350 as is and a new starter is 32 bucks. i will gladly spend 32 bucks on a starter to hear it run before i buy it. if i dont buy it then im sure someone here needs a starter. as for most of the other stuff i can fix fairly cheap. besides its only costing me like 5 vacation days that were gonna expire soon anyway.

"He says it runs and drives good" but there is no starter and no keys?  When was this car last driven?

I say go for it if you get it cheaply enough, and have the space for a project car.

Post by: shanebo on May 21, 2011, 01:48:13 AM
700 is pretty high without confirmation of it running. But ya gotta factor in all the good parts.

Heres my personal rule of thumb:
-runs/looks good-excellent 1500.00-5000.00+
-runs ok body is ok 500.00-1250.00
-not running/good body 350.00-450.00
-not running bad body-scrap value-325.00..depending on how many useable parts remain.
Id offer him 400.00 maybe 450.00 tops..unles he can prove it runs.

Without keys just pop the ignition switch on top of the column above the feet and slide the swich to try and start it. After of course a starter is put in.

ok
#1 el matador- in=m gonna talk to the guy on monday and get the dirt on how long its been. looks like a year or so... and it showed up about a year or so ago so maybe thats when.

#2 shanebo-    for the simple fact that the dog legs are super clean and it has all the windows in it and a very seemingly clean body... i think that 3 or 4 hundred sounds fair... but i am going there with a compression gage and some other tools... if its got decent and fairly even compression then and i fill the float bowl with gas and am getting ignition in should fire correct? i dont even expect it to run right as long as it tries. not to mention the fact that i know where there is an eagle that runs but i expect the body is shot... i am kinda working on a deal there too.

#3 mudkicker- my dear old grandad has a coffee can full of keys he wants to try first but if that dont work i will try that... thanks every one.

got one piece of good news. it was a florida car until about 06... fella says his wife stopped driving the car when the door handles started breaking in fear of not being able to get the grandkids out of the car. ill get a starter today. find out saturday if she runs.

well guys i have her... well i have a piece of paper that says shes mine. i will pick her up at about 8am tomorrow. 400 bucks and a promise from a fellow polock that it runs. i bought the starter and a battery today for 116 bucks with a 12 dollar core on the battery so if she runs im in for 502 bucks... i will get her assembled tomorrow morning before i go to the lane automotive car show in watervelitemichigan... heck of a car show if youre in town. im sure ill be on again shortly after i get her home tomorrow.

Awesomeness.

The list of "bad" items you mentioned earlier seemed mostly minor, so this may not be as much of a project as you think.  Then again, you always find more things to repair as you start going through a car in detail.

At any rate, congratulations on getting it and hopefully bringing it back to life.

got her home... put the battery and the starter in and tried a coffee can full of keys... none worked. my buddy is gonna bring his keyring over later. if i still cant find one i will try something else. the whole underside is still coated and no real sign of rust.

Could you just "hotwire" it using a jumper wire from the battery to the coil?  The starter solenoid is on the fender, making it easy to crank with a screwdriver.

Post by: brentsydlik on May 28, 2011, 08:08:03 PM
best news yet! after another hundred or so keys i have 2 working door keys. since i couldnt find a ign. key i just decided to pop the key cylinder out... an hour and a half and two bloody thumbs later leaves me holding a pair of needle nose pliers and staring at the steering collumn thinking that if this thing dont start the little miss wont be very happy... so here goes... long story slightly less long, she cranked, i shot a little either, and she fired. didnt run long at first being that she probably had a lot of laquer for gas but after 10 or 12 tries she just kept running! If i wasnt so darn tired and sore from today id still be out there working. i figure i will go out first thing in the morning and put the drive shaft back in and feed her a gallon or 2 of fresh gas and put her in gear.

well i got the roof rack off and just about got all the holes patched up. i was gonna put it back on but the fiancee likes it better with out so if any one wants a pretty good roof rack and wants to pay shipping there ya go... also got rid of the chrome ribs on the roof. Started pulling useless crap from the engine bay and soon foun out that im not the first one to go messing with all that but i think i got it all sorted out. Cleaned all the trunk coating out from the spare tire area and got some driving lights installed. should have the exhaust most of the way done this weekend and then on to the brakes.

pics are coming... our friends are due to have a baby here in a day or so, so i need to get the camera before then or ill never get it. lol.

got the exhaust done back to the axle, 2 1/4 inch pipe to the muffler... ill have the pros bend the rest of the 2 1/2 inch pipe to clear the axle once its plated. also took out the headliner this morning. any one got any good cheap ideas on a replacement or ways to make it look decent without a head liner.

The headliner is super easy to re attach new material to. Check the how 2 section.

You didn't destroy the board did you.

I was thinking of doing that to mine before I got it recovered, not to leave it that way, but just to strengthen it, the existing piece is pretty flimsy.  After all the bending and tweeking I did to get it installed after I recovered it I wished I had fiberglassed it first.

not really sure. i was gonna leave the color but the boss(girlfriend/fiancee) dont like the beige. though black and leave the copper color on the plastic... but black gets so hot in the summer. i do think it would look good though.

When I lost the keys to my Eagle wagon, I called a locksmith. There is a code on the ignition switch that they can use to cut a new ignition key and door key. He also left me a piece of paper with the numbers on it in case I was "dumb enough" to ever lose the keys again or I wanted more keys made.

i am really going back and forth a lot. they really are equal but opposite cars. every thing i find on one that needs changed is on the other...i know that my body is in better shape and my trans is good... the horse seems to have a good strong engine and is currently "drivable". im thinking that the thing to do right now is to finish what i started on mine and get the intake and exhaust off and pull the head... i think a lot of my decision will be based of what i find there. im almost tempted to take my time on mine and just see if i can get the horse in good running order for now and just drive it. i would like to try to heal the horses broken leg before i shoot it.
