Yesterday, the first decent day in a while allowed me to get out and start digging into the recent acquisition.
1984 Eagle Limited. (http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/610/3649/39024324001_medium.jpg)
First some new tires and rims are needed since the current tires are studded snow tires,
great for the weather we've had but not for current and upcoming seasons..(http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/610/3649/39024324003_medium.jpg)
Then they are going on these rims -> (http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/610/3649/39024324002_medium.jpg).
Got to take apart the rear interior area for first off, speaker replacement and then to recolor the plastic parts that have faded. Once it warms up we'll work on some paint touch-up and themed additions.
I'm currently looking for the rear bumper caps and the side skirts, don't care what color.
I'll work on getting some better pics of the car and figuring out how to make the layout more presentable.
Congrats. Is that the one that was for sale recently where the guys wife wanted it out of the driveway?
Yes, that's the one.
If Mad Max had an eagle...it would be this one.

That is kind of what I was thinking,
Got the new tires mounted on the new rims. Mounted on the car and the fronts hit the fenders when you turn to about 3/4 towards full lock. So I will not cut the as was suggested and really can't since at the rear of the front fender I would be getting into structural parts of that area. So the quest now is to find a similar rim with less offset to bring the wheel back into the wheel well closer to the way the OEM rims do and allow the tires to clear lock to lock. The new skins are 215/75/15's same as the snow tires that were on it which were mounted on stock rims.
A small setback that hopefully will be resloved this week.
I've been taking the interior apart to repaint it since much of the plastic is faded. Need to change out some bulbs that have died. Also trying to figure out the spider's nest of wires left behind by a previous owner who rewired the headlights. Plus there seems to be as much wire behind the dash than what's probably in the Space Shuttle. I'm working on cleaning that up as well. Was working on trying to remove the instrment cluster so I can get a look at the headlight switch. But time faded before completion. Plus it was being kind of stubborn.
I realized while moving it around the yard Saturday that the sunvisors are missing. For whatever reason I hadn't noticed that before. So another item on my shopping list.
As weather has permitted I've made some progress.
Get some Jeep Cherokee rims, they're 15" and have a very similar offset to the Eagle wheels, though if you get the Country (wirespoke alloy) or the pizza wheels, make sure you have the shop mount TAPE WEIGHTS on the inside of the barrel, instead of clip weights or they will rub the ball joint knuckle.

My 94 kee rims are different offset and the clipon weights don't rub
I've found thre are several different types of Cherokee rims so you'd have to be specific of type and year.
The Unique rims work great in the back, perfect offset, no issues. The backspacing was not correct for the front. Looking at either Aero or Bassett for an alternate.
I've never run what everybody else has in any car project, so I'll keep looking until I find what I want and need.
Got the front grille and headlight assemblies all removed last night so I can clean and paint back in there. I noticed that the headlight buckets are shaped for round headlights. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Yes, the metal behind them was for the former round two headlight system found on Hornets and Gremlins. Waste not, want not, kept AMC out of the poor house for a while.
I don't remember the Hornets or Gremlins having quad headlight arrangements. As I recall they were the single bulb arangement. My 72 Ambassador on the other hand has the quad round headlight arrangement.

Craig... This is larry.. I had the Eagle before you.. I do miss the beast very much... I was trying to find your email addy, but could not.. I have the Original Owners manual for the car and wish to send it to you.. can you email me your address? I will send it to you USPS... Regarding the electrical issues with the car, remember that was the dude that had it before me.... I was trying to figure it out before I sold it to you...... I am re-thinking my decision to sell.... perhaps a divorce was a better route to take...LOL!
You are right only two headlights on Gremlins and Hornets. And that is what you will find behind the plastic buckets, one on each side.

Sent you an e-mail Larry.
Well have had a few weekends to work on the Eagle. Complete cooling system overhaul is complete. New belts, new hoses. New hoses to the tranny cooler. Need to replace the rubber fuel line from the hard line to the fuel pump, it's like jelly, throbs like a vein from some space alien when the car is running. So the rims got returned, mounted the new Generals on the stock rims. But the center portion was bugging me...

So here's the solution.(http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/610/3649/39024324004_medium.jpg)(http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/610/3649/39024324006_medium.jpg)
now that looks good dude.
I love that eagle...I was wondering where it ended up at after it got sold....glad to see its safe in the hands of a fellow nest member!!
By the way Its looking good...real good!!
Thanks for the props, it's been a slow project. Mechanically everything is in pretty good shape except the carb. The thing fires right up but you've got to sit for a while before taking off or it stalls. It stalls when you stop quick or turn a little quicker than normal. When it stalls it may take a few minutes before you can get it to fire again. So until I get that issue fixed it's still yard bound. But it's now all road legal so I'm itchin' to really drive it.
But if one wasn't enough, picked this up Friday. 1964 Rambler Classic 2 dr Hardtop.

I love the 64 Classic! Is it a 770?
Yes it's a 770.
All right Craig!! That 770 looks amazing. I certainly cant blame you for getting it. No true AMC fan could pass a beauty like that up!! Congrats! ;D
Ahhhhh, a top of the line Classic 770. It looks like one of the two hard top versions? They had 6 and 5 passenger HT models in '64. And, more importantly: the 195.5 or the brand new and optional predecessor to our 258's, the Typhoon 232 engine -- only available in 1964 in the 770 - 2 door models.
It's the 196 engine and seating for six with the split front seats. This makes my seventh AMC. It may be an addiction. ;)
Should either be body style 6416-5 (sedan) or 6419-5 (Hard Top). The sedan version totaled,1,278 built in '64 and is the rarest of all Classic 2 doors; while the Hard Top 6 passenger model 2 door 770 model boasted 8,996 built and was the most popular of all the Classic two door models that year.
Yes..but what a great addiction it is ;)
Well Saturday while working out back I discovered this, the rear hatch glass is shattered, SURPRISE!: (http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l256/miatacp/broken_rear_window.jpg)
Oh man!! Sorry to hear that Craig!!Do ya know what happened...looks alot like a BB gun wound!
What happened?
I'm not sure what happened. I didn't want to open the hatch for fear of dumping the whole window in the cargo compartment. I looked through the hole to see if I could spot the projectile but didn't see anything. With the angle of the rear window it had to come from more overhead than straight on. I can't wait to see how fun it will be to find a replacement glass for an 84 Eagle. I do know where there are a couple wagons with complete rear hatches so I've got a backup plan if the Insurance Co. doesn't deliver.
HI I have a new old stock back glass you can pm me with phone number and i will call you ....Don

I had one just like that back in the mid-80's. Super nice rust free body, really impressed me. Drove it for a couple of years and then after I rebuilt the carburetor it ran like crap, blowing black smoke, running rough and stalling. I couldn't figure out what was wrong so I traded it in on a 77 Thunderbird. Years later after I did it again I figured out what was wrong - I had installed the choke spring backwards and the choke was closing as the engine warmed up instead of opening. Still kicking myself over that one, got rid of a nice economical car for nothing.
I was at the local pick-n-pull recently and saw this hanging on the front of an S-10. I have been looking for one but not just any type.
So here is is seting in place just to see how it looks. I picked a pair of driving lamsp off a Cherokee to mount on it once it's in place. I've got to do a little bit of engineering in the area of mounting brackets. I need to take a better pic when the sun is still on the front of the car.

Lookin good man!!
I completed the Motorcraft carb replacement from GRONK. MAN what a difference! Was going to test drive the thing but the brakes are like mush. Fluid in the MC is like mud. Got the new MC bled and installed and now on to bleeding the brake lines. Unfortuantely when trying to open the bleeders last night I discovered they were covered in dirt and grime and unmoveable. So some soaking of them with the Acetone/Tranny fluid mixture should help break them loose. I cleaned up some previous owner's creative wiring. It's amaxing how many splices some people will put in a line. Guess going to the store and buying a new spool of wire was out of the question.
Add some pics of the carb brother....... War Wagon looks awesome!!! Let me know if you want to add a snorkle or anything...
A Snorkle would be awesome! I'll try to take some pics tonight.
I had a 66 Ramblel. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Pics of the carb installation.
