Where can I find Hatch Weatherstripping for my 87 Eagle?

You may still be able to get an NOS from your Local Jeep dealer. That's where I got mine a few years back. NOS ones turn up occasionally on "that most famous auction site" too. Peter Stathes from AMC Rambler carries a lot of Weatherstripping for AMCs, but that's one part he doesn't carry.

I don't remember which one, but one of the vendors in our vendors list has them for about $100.
There had been a rumor that a strip from the Eagle Talon was a good replacement.  Wrong.

On the American Parts Depot site, is the weatherstripping for the Concord/Hornet Hatch the one we want?

I had a line on a wholesale place awhile back, but no one wanted to go in with me on a big roll.  I'll have to see if I can find that email.

Yeah, I've been to all those places before and none seem to have the one for wagons. I believe the Concord and Hornet Hatchbacks are different models than the Concord and Hornet Wagons.

I believe this is the style Hatchback they carry stripping for...



Which would be WAY to big since the whole decklid and rear window open with the hatch.

Have you tried your Jeep dealer yet JayRamb? They may have some NOS still.

I got mine back in 2002, I don't remember how many they said were left in the National Inventory, but I don't think there was a mad rush for them since.

I emailed that one link and they carry the one for Eagle\Spirit.  He said out of stock but would have them in a week.  I want to get one for my car.

I contacted the place who said they had rolls of the weatherstripping for $97 a roll.  The response I got makes me think I should have ordered some when I had the chance a couple of years ago for my wagon (money wasn't there though). 

Here's what they said...

"We still have the door seals available, $94 pair. Sorry, the  hatch seal
material has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

The picture of the wagon hatch seal I had was one that I took when Doug and I were helping a member unload an Eagle from a trailer in Iowa.  I do not seem to have that picture anymore.  I hope Doug does, because I need to start checking into finding something close that will work for the Eagle wagons.

Here's a cross section of the wagon hatch seal that Doug and I took like 3 years ago (Wow it has been that long).

If anyone finds a supplier with this type of weatherstrippping I am all ears.  The supplier I had found said it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.  Let's all hope not.

Pat, I looked into their website.  They might have it.  Eagle isn't listed, but Hornet it.  So they likely have the door seals we need.  But unless they have the Hornet Sportabout, which isn't listed, they may not have the hatch seals.  I'll try to call them tomorrow.

I didn't check the entire catalog for door or SX/4 stuff.

This is a universal seal, but it matches 83Eagles! picture below.

This link is for a 12' section, but the eagle wagon hatch seal is about 12' 7".

I called them and they said that they would throw in the extra few inches.

I never have been able to find a hatch seal for my eagle wagon.  Was never quite sure if the jcwhitney one will fit, and I think kennedy is over priced, but that may be the only option.

It might be an idea to look at the shops that sell parts for tractors. I've noticed that a lot of aircraft tow mules (large tractors) have similar seals around their doors.

Parts for trucks. com maybe?

For what it's worth, I bought a seal from AMC Rambler and it did not fit right.  It looked like it would, so I destroyed my old seal removing it.  I had to use adhesive in the channel all the way around (not like the original) and when I was all done, there was a sizeable gap at the top in the middle and around the top corners.  Being that it was already November of last year, I used some Frost King closed cell strips to raise the new seal and take up the gap.  I suppose it works ok, but it does not cover the area where the metal/plastic interior panels meet up like the original seal.  Since I had cut it to install I could not return it.  I think the lack of availability of a proper seal is ridiculous.  Is it really that hard to make one?

I think the Metro TS912 with a few extra inches might be a great solution, however, at $73 I'm not willing to take the chance.  I already spent $65 on the "solution" above.  However, if it did work and work well, I would undo the above and spend the money to do it right.  I would call the above a hack job and I'm not proud of it.

I have used that puffy weatherstrip stuff too. I like it. I used it on the tops of the door frames. That way it doesn't collect the snow between the drip rail and door. The snow would fly in to my seats. Cured!!

What an idea!  Do you have a photo?  I always end up blowing around the door gap to get the snow out before I open it.  I look like a nut case.

Don't know about 87', but I replaced my 84' rear strip with a Dodge caravan strip.  i went ahead and bought a new replacement for the 93' caravan from rock auto.  $40.  Not the exact replacement but it works.  Seemed a little tight and thought I had to get creative around the latch mechanism.  Turns out the actual metal flange where the strip press-fits needed to be widened ever so slightly (the opening of the hatch).  Eased it outward with a small sledge and the hatch is all good.  Opens and closes just fine and sealed.  After installing the new strip and finding it difficult to close, I noticed the stripping was starting to wear at a few key points (4 and 8 o'clock if the hatch was a clock dial).  That's what turned me onto "helping" it with the hammer.

I would like to see the Caravan stripping too. My seal LOOKS good, but it (pretty consistently) rains from the spot just below where the left hinge is. I need to get around to replacing my headliner, and I need to fix water leaks first. Or, does anyone have a hack for just specific sections that "rain"?

For those of you who want to save your current one, before it gets frozen there is a chapstick like product you can wipe on it. It's not litium grease, but it's similar only washable.

I figure I'd add to this since it seemed to be the most popular search result when I was looking for a solution for my hatch weatherstripping on my Eagle wagon...I just purchased weatherstripping from Blaserauto.com and although I haven't even recieved it I was told that the one I ordered isn't an exact replacement it has been used plenty of times with successful results.  The  person that I talked to said that they had been working on a factory replacement and that it should be available for purchase in about a month.  My bank account was charged $89.50  but I would have sworn I was quoted for $72 - it seems to me like $17.50 is a bit steep for shipping.  All that to say I was told the factory replacement would cost $145 but if you are on a budget you might want to confirm all charges before you complete the transaction.  Anyway, I figured I would add this source since nobody seems to have mentioned Blaser as a source for this elusive part.
