Can someone tell me what would cause a steering wheel to split like that

Not bad.  That car has a lot of potential.  I like it.  I have never seen one of those in person though.  I am not sure why a steering wheel would split like that.

I think so. Yup, I can  ;D. A little dirty, but no cracks. The horn pad is only the cover, the part it mounts to was toast.
