I found a factory amc eagle 1987 Aluminum valve cover, will this fit (replace) the plastic valve cover on my other 1981 Eagle?  Or do I need to buy a new replacement aluminum cover?  thanks.

An 87 valve cover will not work on an 81. You need one for a 81 to 86.

Really?  What did they change?  I thought I had an easy fix!  Do you think I should get a new plastic one (cheap on eBay) and hope for the best?

check out the PML cover at www.yourcovers.com, a little pricey, (made in America), but the best out there, good luck, gz

I just recently installed a PML valve cover on my 83 Eagle.    Here is a link to that thread with some info and pictures...    http://forums.amceaglesden.com/index.php?topic=46137.0
