My Eagle had a sagging rear when I got it. I couldn't wait to do something about it. I did a lot of research here and elsewhere and decided an add a leaf was the direction I wanted to go in. before spending any money I'd take a look around my local bone yard to see if there was something that I could cannibalize to bring my eagle back to where it needed to be.
The spring needed to be 23'' from the centre bolt to the front and 29'' to the rear and 2 1/2'' wide. The spring also had to have a gentle arc to it.
I found a ford F-150 that someone had just cut the rear end out of . There were no clamps on the leaf packs. They were just hanging there and were all splayed apart. I noticed the second leaf was aftermarket. It measured 24'' and 30'' by 2 1/2''. They were just begging to come home with me. I undid the centre bolt and the leafs just fell to the ground.
Here is what I got.
I don't know if these numbers mean anything.
The job back at home went well. I was hoping for about an inch more height in the rear than the front. That is exactly what I got. It is quite firm as well. That should be good for towing or just loading up the back of the car.
Not bad for $20.00 eh?
