Fuel pump change

Howdy all,

Just checking in to see if there's anything special about installing a replacement fuel pump on my 86 Eagle.

I take it I just unattach the current lines, unbolt the 2 bolts, clean the area up a tad, slap the new gasket on (any form of sealant required?) and slide the pump in.

The reason I ask is that I usually get into these jobs and end up finding something absolutely ridiculous popping out at me.

Its as easy as you say. Unless you find bad fuel lines.

You've got the basic steps right.  The only thing I will add is that when I just swapped out my fuel pump, I was having a tough time getting a good seal from where the steel line was coming out of the pump and heading towards the carb.  I put on a little teflon tape, problem solved.

Feed line to carb was a &^%^$&^!!! when I did mine.....I ended up getting a new one @ the same time...granted, that was 1997 & it was still available thru Chrysler ;)

Make sure the arm goes on top of the cam lobe.

Mine has a slight seep at the top of the bolt that has the metal tubegoing through it.  Even then it runs so much better.

Any ideas how to fix?

Pull it back off, slide the bolt up and Teflon tape it up like a boss?

When you say bolt, do you mean the nut with the male threads that fits over the steel tube, and screws onto the female fitting on top of the fuel pump?  I had gas coming up through the hole in the top of that nut, kind of around the steel tube.  I put teflon tape on the male threads on that nut, tightened everything back up, and it fixed the leak.

Yeah that's the one. The fuel is leaking out the top of that nut where the tube goes through.

How does Teflon tape on the threads stop the fuel from leaking out the top by the tube?

I'm not sure why it works, but it did work for me.  Its something that is very easy to try, and if you've already got teflon tape laying around, its a no cost solution!  And make sure everything is properly seated as you tighten it down.  Good luck!
