High Altitude Performance Adjustments
« on: December 27, 2011, 06:10:13 PM »
I have the details of the mods, but have questions:  Is the jumper wire (part #318 6890) just a wire or does it contain a diode or resistor of some sort?  If so, where can I get one?  Next Q: the "Vehicle Emission Control Information Update Label"
(part# 8983 100 009) seems like the proverbial needle in a haystack.  I can't find one. Can someone with a High Altitude adjusted wagon send me a pic of the label?  I can have it reproduced.  I should be getting my "new" '87 Limited shortly after the New Year from Pennsylvania.  Any help greatly appreciated.  :amc:
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everyone's  NOT out to get you! :amc:

Nice info!

Looks from this that if one were to drive a high altitude emissions car at lower elevations, mid grade if not premium fuel may be a good idea (assuming all is at spec, of course) until the adjustments are made with the 7˚ further advanced timing spec'd for >4000' operation?

I'm asking since I'm headed to Denver for work this weekend, and there's a drivable '87 on CL in CO Springs... I have nearly no free time, but it's the most promising lead I've had yet if I can make something work out.

Thanks.

I think putting a relay in with a toggle switch for high/low altitude would be extremely easy

That would take care of the electronic part, but there's a vacuum line swap and a 7˚ static timing difference as well if you read through the bulletin. That's on the slush boxes, I think the 5 speeds have a few more changes than that, even.

There are vacuum solenoids too. I use one to shut off the vac advance on my truck when I'm towing and it starts to ping.
