Is the rad going down? Rusty looking water may mean freeze plug on the back of the block has rotted out.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

Nope, the radiator is filled with new coolant and holding. But I can check the freeze plugs next time I'm home, I hadn't thought of that. The water only came out for a few seconds after starting and running the car, and then stopped.

Although the water didn't look like coolant, I did lose a bit of coolant down in that area when replacing my temperature sensor. It would have sat for a couple days, so I guess it's possible it mixed with other things and changed color. Never really looked to see where that went... :P

All is well, my shift linkage is adjusted correctly and the car is running much better! Freeze plugs weren't rotted out, although they were pretty rusty. That will all be taken care of next summer most likely, when I get a chance to take the engine out, rebuild, and paint everything.
