Anybody using these wheels?
« on: September 18, 2011, 03:59:28 PM »
I found a set of these wheels in the junkyard today.  They seemed to be in pretty good shape, and I would probably have them powder coated black.  There were no center caps, and I'm not sure what would work.  Please let me know what you think of them.  Thanks!

I think so.  They were just laying there in the junkyard, three by a cherokee and one off by itself.  They are 15 X &, I couldn't measure the bolt pattern.

There were lots of wheels available today, but they were scattered all over.  Its like someone is planning to come back and get them, but they scattered them so people would think there wasn't a full set.

they look like cherokee wheels (I have a set stashed away somewhere that where going to go on one of the eagles)  as far as center caps I'd just take one of the wheels to a tire shop that sells wheels and see what they have.  I have in the past gotten chrome hub covers for an S-15 jimmy I had and they set me right up with some american racing center caps.  looked pretty good when they where installed with the chrome lug nuts

Those are 10 spoke Cherokee wheels. I have a set in the shed waiting to get refineshed. Mine were missing one center cap. I got it from the auction site. Another member has those wheels. They look great on an Eagle.

So I did go back and buy this set of wheels from the junkyard (which was an adventure in itself lol).  i plan to clean them up, get them media blasted, and then powder coated in black.  There are a couple small abrasions on two of them which I will clean up with the dremel and sandpaper before media blasting.  I also bought for NOS center caps off the auction site, only $15 each, which is about the same as some sellers were charging for used ones.  I'll take pictures as I go.  Thanks.

In early 2010 a local Jeep only salvage yard went out of business and had a clearance sale.  I picked up four or five of these, complete with centre caps, for $10.00 each.

Too bad I didn't see this earlier, I have lots of centre caps for these wheels.

So how much did you pick up the set of wheels for?

Well, the wheels themselves were cheap - $19 each.  However, there is also a core charge of $12 per wheel, then adding on tax and the environmental charge the total came to $147 for 4 wheels.  I can get almost $50 back if I turn in a set of alloy wheels as cores.  But, I don't happen to have a set laying around, and I'm not sure anybody would just give me a set.  But even with all the extra charges, I've ended up with 4 wheels for about the price of one new one.
