I drove the 88 to work this AM.  It died at a red light but started right back up.
I didn't think bad spark plugs would cause my problem.  I may replace the ignition module and do the Accell coil/wires/ upgrade.
I just remembered that I have a good coil I took off the 83 when I installed the Acell coil.  I may try that first.
I'm right 98% of the time, and I don't care about the other 3%.

You may want to check the connections on the Ignition Module too. I have unplugged and plugged them back together and have them start working better.

Dry.
It ran pretty well the last couple of days.  I did get down on it one time and it smothered out.
After that it did OK again.  I'm gathering parts for the TFI.
I have known a coil to cause something like the original problem, so if I'm going to replace it I may as well do it up right.
That mechanic said it was the carb - that those old cars didn't like unleaded gas.  I don't think I want him working on it.  If he had said alcohol I could have accepted that.  He may have just misspoken and meant alcohol.
After he said carb I asked if a kit wouldn't fix it.  He said maybe but he doesn't know anyone who does kits.
Hey, I did that once myself.  The Chrysler/Jeep mechanic wanted to do that on the 83, so he does them - for somewhere above $350.  I don't think so.  I can get one from rockauto for about $175 delivered and just replace the whole thing.
Now I'm mixing up my own threads.
I'm right 98% of the time, and I don't care about the other 3%.

If it runs better in dry weather, that would indicate an electrical problem. If it's running good much of the time it is not likely a carb problem.

I can always tell the humidity level based on the way a carburetored vehicle runs. There's a little extra hesitation on a cold start, and they run a little smoother.

The "dry" referred to the idle tubes.

As far a humid weather goes, I've found the BBDs ice up more than any other carb I've driven.  One has to be really sure the hot air mechanism is up to par. They'll start fine but start running rough in a minute or 2 and may eventually stall. The little bit of heat that got built up will melt the ice and after a bit of cranking, the car will be fine. I fixed mine after this.

The 88 was doing OK.  I drove it to work and back Friday.  Monday it would start and after about 3 or 4 seconds it would die just like turning off the switch.
I had already decided to replace most ignition parts with upgrade stuff.
I especially want to thank those who offered to help me with parts.  I had begun ordering new stuff.  The ICM came in from rockauto.com yesterday.  I had hurt my leg and couldn't sleep, so after the storms passed over I got out of bed and installed the ICM.  Finished about 12:30 this AM.  I wouldn't try to start it because of neighbors.  Cranked it to go to work this morning and it did very well indeed.
I still have a Pertronix coil coming from summmitracing.  I got the other parts from Advance.  They had to order some and they should be in today.  Advance has changed vendors.  I'll try to post new brands and  parts numbers eventually.

Question:  I know that to get full benefit from a hotter coil I need to bypass the resistor wire.

Will there be any ill effects if I put that off?

If I'm replacing parts at midnight I may want to wait untill the next night to finish things like that.
