My hats off to michigan Eagle owners
« on: April 05, 2011, 12:25:26 AM »
I know this is a bit off the eagle topic but...I own a 2000 Chevy one ton truck. Its originally from Michigan. I hit a deer the the other night and as I pulled off panels I am finding so much rust :o :'(....This is a 2000...I cant begin to imagine what and Eagle would look like after 23-31 years of Michigan humidity, winter road salt and moisture...I truly have the utmost respect for you guys restoring these cars up north!!! My hats are off to you all for the amount of metal work and rust repair that must be involved in a restoration up north!!!

Take care
Shane

one of the drawbacks to moving back to PA from utah is that you's should fail an inspection if you have rust on your car any bigger than the size of a quarter or any jagged edges (never seen rust make a smooth edge).  on the flipside in utah as long as you have the usual brakes, lights, horn, wipers and pass the I/M test your on the road .... no body needed :P

WV is the same way except the car will fail for any visible rust hole, even a pin hole.   I keep travel to a minimum in the winter to avoid the salt.

yeah we have all those same road salt/ rust issues here in VT as well (see the pics on my project post).  I used to have a "lick and stick" insection station but the state cracked down hard a year or two ago, lots of guys lost there inspection licenses and all the shops now are quite serious.  which brings me to a silly story.

- a week or two ago my buddy showed up at the garage in his 1993 honda civic, 240k "just got my car inspected" he said.

"sweet" i replied as I went closer to take a look. "looks kind of funny"

"i took a picture of my friends with my cell phone, emailed it to myself, printed it out and taped it too my windshield!! ha ha i think i can get away with it for at least a little while" he bragged

"cool, except it expired in february...."

I guess I got it pretty good here in Divide Co....no emissions, no rust inspections, no nothing....And it shows!!...this has got to be the beater car capitol of the country....alot of cars out here are literally held together with duct tape and bungee cords....Its all good though cuz my truck is one of them ;D

I'm from Dearborn, outside of Detroit.  Inspections? What are those? Emmissions?  20% of the cars driving in the motor city don't even have insurance, that number maybe higher.

Very rarely, do I see anything AMC on the roads here; I think most have rusted away or worn out.  A few years ago I would always find an Eagle in the junkyard, I haven't had any luck recently.

Should have "hoarded" while I could!  :amc:

mixed martial artist are like pit bulls. were highly trained and bred to protect our family, our property, and ourselves. But when someone rattles the cage and gets bit they aim to put us down like their stupidity is our fault. I am a cage fighter, does that mean i want to hurt you outside the cage? No. will i stand there and let you beat me because im trained to fight inside the cage? No. If you pick a fight i will defend my self, regardless of my training or your lack of. if you get hurt i may feel bad but in the end the fault is yours. If your to stupid not to start something you cant finish the i suggest you stay on the porch.

We appreciate the sentiments.  Imagine the work it takes to find an Eagle in this state as most all of them have rotted frames and were junked.  Don't forget the weather's impact on the roads either, 4x4 is excellent but potholes are still rough on the car.
Only you truly know your Eagle.
