84 4 door Sedan
« on: March 21, 2011, 10:12:19 AM »
So as of Saturday, I guess I'm officially an eagle owner now, lol. Made the trip out to MA and retrieved Nate's eagle, brought it back to NY via tow dolly. It was an uneventful day (which is good, lol), after the car got settled in on the dolly, and a few stops to re tighten the straps, we made the haul back up state with no glitches. I won't be working on the car for a while yet, I have it stashed over at a friends house for the time being. When the time comes all can expect another build thread  ;D.....So here it is as it sits.

I'm thinking this one will be a daily driver for me, it will donate its transmission (maybe engine too), to eaglegirls sx4, as she wants her car to be an automatic. The 4 door will get the sx's 4 speed set up, (maybe eventually a 5 or 6 speed will make its way in there, lol). The factory paint is in good enough shape to leave on the car as a base, I'll just iron the dents out, fix the roof (typical quarter window rust), get it sealed up, and give it a quick paint job. Good chunk of work ahead of me, but it should turn out fairly decent.

Thanks! Yeah a little bababooy on the light, lol. Rust is very minimal though, while disconnecting the driveshaft, I scoped out the floors and inner rockers and they are suprisingly like new, I'm hoping there's no big suprises under the plastic, but we all know how that goes, lol. Reguardless, no major rot which was the big deciding factor on what the plan for this car was/is.

Ya know its funny...Alot of eagles Iv found in salvage yards are picked completly clean of parts...but for some reason almost all of them always still have the tail lights...I would think those would be the first thing to go :-\...you shouldnt have much trouble finding taillights at any rate....best of luck!!

Will be interesting to see what you find under the vinyl and rear quarter windows, and how you deal with it.

Well, the vinyl roff has already been removed, so basically what you see is what I have, lol. It's not really bad, but it does need attention before it goes too much further (some may not like the method I'm going to use, but the fix will be permanent). I have a few better pictures, those others are from my cell phone (as are pretty much all my pics I put on here, hahaha), I'll have to extract a few from the digi camera and put em up.

That has yet to be determined, once I remove the rest of the trim I'll have a better idea of what I have to work with. There is some bondo around there that I'm unsure of what it's hiding as well, hopefully nothing too serious, either way no biggie, I have a good supply of scrap sheetmetal to make pieces if necessary.

On another note, question for you wagon/4dr sedan owners. I noticed something that seemed a bit odd to me, I went to close the rear door the other day, it didn't shut all the way so I gave the door a little push, instead of closing it "oil canned" of course it popped right back into shape like rubbermaid, lol. The door is in good shape ,as in no rust, so it's integrity hasn't been compromised in that respect. Is this a normal thing? Maybe they used a lighter sheet metal for the door panels than earlier models or two doors?
Like I've said, I haven't dug around this car too much, so I'm not sure whether the paint is original or not, It may just have been straightened in the past, but never stress relieved, lol.
