A jawdropper!!!!!
« on: February 04, 2011, 01:52:01 AM »
I went up to Cripple Creek CO today. In a casino parking garage, was what could have been one of the most beautiful Eagles I have ever seen. It was that dark bugundy with flawless wood paneling. The interior was a showroom quality bugandy leather..or pleather..what ever it was it was sweeeet. I have got to get a camera for times like that. I hung out there for alot longer than I should have to see If there was any chance it was for sale. It had a hanicap plackard on the mirror so im assuming its probably a seniors car. Never did see the owmer....I would have given him my 2000 chevy one ton strait across for it in a heart beat!!

Wow sweet. Nice sighting...I wish I could see those around my town, but the winters are so harsh here in Wisconsin...that anything over 10-15 years old is a rust bucket.   :P

Colorado used to be a great state to pick up solid old cars, but in the last 5 or 6 years or so they started using that magnesium chloride junk on the road. That stuff gets into every nook and crevis and will have a car looking like swiss cheese in just a few winters. My poor truck is a 2000 and its got more rot already than my previous truck had after 32 years.

Mag Chloride - Boo Hiss - Got that down here in Durango/Cortez area too. I have learned that as soon as a nice day above freezing comes along after snow/ice driving, rinse the cars down!  At work, we use coal ash (Mesa Verde) which is most of our daily drives.  Today just might be a car wash day.  The Eagle is coated with dried mud from our road.

Ya know if I ever get a nice eagle...or get the one I got nice...Id be affraid to even take the thing out in the winter. It sucks cuz the snow is when the eagles get to really strut their stuff, but driving one in that mag chloride is like suicide for these cars!! :'(

Yea, just the other day I saw a 2005ish Chevy truck that was completely rotted out... I had to stop and stare in amazement, made me wanna go wash my Eagle right then and there!  :o  And that's what I did too...  ;D

I know the feeling....you can almost hear it start rusting when that crap splashes up on it!!! It snowed pretty good here today, i got stuck behind the plow on my way home tonight...I stared at the back of that truck for 18 miles as it relentlessly sprayed my poor old truck with mag-chloride or"rust punch" as I like to call it. ;D

I've heard that mag chloride actually is better for paint and metal, along with lowering the freezing point ever further than salt... Cars in coastal states are a good example of what salt does. I wax my car once a year as it doesn't see a wash for four or five months at a time, and I have yet to see the very few small rust stains grow....

They used to use the cinders from the power plant smoke stacks on the roads up until the very early 80's....Up here at least.... It made a huge mess but it was car friendly at least. Once salt came into the picture that was the end of the "Clean Colorado Car". Alot of rust situations are partially due to neglect. Ive seen people go all winter and not wash their car once. Not a good idea.

I go all winter withotu washing my car, but I also spend eight+ hours waxing it in the last warm days of august with the good expensive stuff.

Do you use a power buffer on your bird Tougeagle. Im debating on buying one cause I got this dull film on my paint that is so freakin' difficult to polish out. By the time I got the hood buffed to a shine I felt like Gumby. I just wasnt sure if those buffers tear up the paint though. Ive heard mixed stories about them and if I ever get an Eagle that has good paint Id hate to put swirl marks in it.......By the way glad to hear you had a good trip to the slopes...as well as a safe return. ;D

the "rust punch" as shanebo called is actually better for paint, BUT if you have any loose electrical connections, or ones that do not keep out the weather very well it WILL destroy all of your electrical connections. it has adverse effects on copper, tin and zinc. the trucking industry has been telling truckers after they go through an area that has roads treated with it to thoroughly clean all light and trailer connections. i have Friends who drive trucks and they have to replace connectors almost yearly because of this. just keep your connectors clean and dry, of waterproof them and you should be OK. That does put my mind at ease a bit to know that The mag chloride is not as hard on my vehicle as I had been led to believe it was. Ive heard so many conflicting stories about that stuff :-\. But I trust what I hear in here...Ive had no bad info yet! Ofcourse now Im gonna be paranoid about my electrical connections....but good info to have now i can make sure I keep my electrical connections more protected, cause I do have free hanging wires in places...thanks for the info Twoslowinwyo...Im always appreciative of info that helps me perserve my ride.
