IT RUNS!!!

My friends were agging me to start it, but I wanted to make sure everything was okay to do so... so I checked everything that I needed to, and it came down to "Why am I waiting, LET's GO start it!"

I took a half-quart of oil and dumped it into the oil fill for top-end lubrication. Then dumped some gasoline down the carb... pumped vigorously, and attempted to start, and whamo!! VROOM!  It started instantly, like it was started 6 minutes ago, not 6 years ago!

Of course it was hard to keep running with the crappy (for lack of a better word) gasoline. I just ended up putting more gas in the tank and carb so it got a better mix, and it kept running then. Still have to look at other things, though. It's not running 100% as anyone would imagine, but HEY IT RUNS.

All of the country boys in my class with their BIG TRUCKS were talking trash about my Eagle the whole morning... until she fired up. They shut their mouths after that...  ;D

Glad to hear you got it running!  Its amazing how these engines will start right up after being neglected for so long.  I hope you got a chance to change the oil before starting.  I revived a Gremlin that had been sitting for 8 years, and when I changed out the old oil before trying to start it, there was a pint of water in the oil pan - must have been from condensation as it was very clean water, not anti-freeze.  Congrats!

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get back into the shop and keep working on it, it's a lot of fun.  I think next is to clean up the interior and exterior, and see if I can get rid of the mice smell  :P

I hope you got a chance to change the oil before starting.
I didn't, but that's why I put in some fresh oil too.  I just wanted to see if it would run, and any old oil will allow an engine to run for a bit. No long term, that's for sure...the oil is completely black lol

i did the same thing with my '85, Lewis. all the guys in my ag mech classes (i had two back to back first and second semester) wanted to know what the heck kinda car he was when i brought hm in. when i told them he could beat all their trucks (big ones too) they laughed and scoffed at him. so when i got him running again (new starter, starter solanoid and ignition control module) i took him out of the shop and around the parking lot a couple times. that weekend when i took him home, i went straight to a dirt road (newly wet mind you  ;D) and got a video  of me and my boyfriend (who Lewis really likes btw) doing donuts and fishtails. showed the naysayers the next monday, and they haven't said a single thing since  8)

Got the car titled in my name today, so it's officially mine now.  :)  Also bought a gas syphoning kit, so I'm going to get that nasty gas out of there on Thursday (My next lab day in the school shop). I let you know how it goes!

I hope you get rid of the mouse problem, I once had mice get into my exhaust when I had my car parked in a pole shed for a awhile.  That was NOT a nice smell.

Eaglegirls SX had a terrible rodent problem (lucky they didn't go after the seats), but the snakes took care of the pests, I was left with the clean up of, well you know, lol. I had to gut the interior and scrub each individual piece to get the nasty out (Baking soda and water works good on the seat belts, let them soak in it) . Diluted purple power works very nice on the plastic pieces  ;).

So there's your solution to the rodent problem.
