Valve Stem Seal Options, Opinions Requested...
« on: March 18, 2022, 10:29:22 PM »
Good Evening, All --

Was hoping for a little input on replacing my 1980 258 valve stem seals.  I have a pair of options for the stem seal materials.

See the attached photo, please.  The seal on the far left is one of the original "unbrella" seals, and is a hard plastic.  The Felpro replacement seal in the middle is also a hard plastic, P/N SS70530.  The option on the right is a soft silicone material with a spring from Enginetech, P/N S2886-20.

I am wondering which type of seal to go with, the hard plastic Felpro, or the soft silicone Enginetech.

I've searched a little online, but it's an "opinions are like a-------" situation, many different types are endorsed.

Thank you in advance for the input --

David

Ok, thank you for the feedback!  Seems the best course of action here is to go for the factory-style seals.
