Cross reference with Napa Door Hinge Pins?
« on: July 05, 2011, 05:10:39 PM »
I'm looking at getting new hinge pins for my driver's door on my Eagle. Anyone know of the cross reference # or the actual Napa part # that fits correct? I tried the hinge pins from the Nest Store and they are too thick/big. I do not want to drill out my hinge pin hole.

Drilling them out takes out of roundness out of play

You don't have to drill for the pins. Only the bushings. That has been my experience anyway.

I tried that search before, they don't exist, lol, I sat with a micrometer and napa's paper catalog (I know the local napa guys, lol), on my lunch break, and wen through their whole pin/bushing section, and came up empty handed (not to mention the dorman book too). The closest thing you will find are the ones from the nest, which are for a gm application. Like mk says, drilling them out a hair ensures round holes, lol.

You had to drill for the pins? Mine fit and I got them from the store.

I got the hinge pins last year from the Eagle Nest Store, and they wouldn't even fit in the hinge hole on my 87 Eagle. The pins were TOO BIG.

Again supposed to be or shoyld be whatever. Takes into account for worn out of round hinges

The pins I got from the store were bigger than the stock ones.  My stock pins were fine, so I was going to reuse them with the new bushings, but they were too small for the bushings.

Just drill or file out the old holes.

I did the same thing - Got the Nest store's pins and they're too big.  I think they are supposed to be.

What I was told is most hinges are probably buggered up (worn, whatever), so you can drill them out, and make them true again.  That's why the pins are bigger.

Now, I only changed the bushings, and I used the old pins, and in less then a year, they're getting sloppy again.   So I don't know if getting NOS pins and bushings would help, or I'm gonna have to drill mine out.

The thing I didn't like about drilling them out, is how to drill them straight without all the equipment to keep them true.  I don't trust myself enough.

Maybe it doesn't matter that much, I just don't want to mess it up.

Luckily, I really only have to do the Driver's door.

I guess mine must have been drilled out by a PO.  ???

Sorry for confusing the issue. I thought I knew what I was talking about. :-[

Well shucks! I guess my best luck is to get an Eagle Donor Car's pins on  both doors. I appreciate everyone's input. You are the BEST Forum around!

I'm posting to update my situation:

The driver's side, and passenger side hinges are interchangeable.

The pass side hinges you just flip over, and voila!  Driver's side door hinges.  I have a few extra sets that don't require any drilling, as they are not sloppy (no real wear on the holes in the hinges).  So, if Kennedy American has the original sized pins, and I have some original sized bushings... then I don't have to do any drilling.

I'm avoiding drilling, because my original driver's side door hinge is sooo sloppy, I don't think I'd get a proper hole even by drilling.  And it's too oval, and I don't feel I'd get it centered properly.
