Door lock cylinders

There was a thread not to long ago about door lock cylinders with a lot of good info. I guess it disappeared. I can't remember who, but there was a member who was quite knowledgeable on the subject. My driver door lock cylinder is on it's last leg. I realize I can get new locks from Kennedy or the auction site, however I'm installing sport mirrors and black door handles and want to change the door locks to black ones and vaguely remember that being mentioned in that thread. Are the Eagle door locks AMC specific or are they a common GM lock?

I haven't really compared things to GM locks.    If you want to redo yours with black parts, the black parts are Strattec 321383 for the cap, and Strattec 594154 for the shutter (the center piece with the little flap-door thingie).   Or if you want the whole "Lock Service Package" in black (which is everything but the tumblers and springs and lever), its Strattec 700296.   You'll probably have to find a locksmith supply house to buy them.

George, your the man. I thought it was you but wasn't 100%. My passenger door and trunk locks were great. There is a locksmith near where I work that  has been there for a couple decades at least. What if I'm looking for original replacement of the door locks, and not the black ones? 

Where could I order those?   Does anyone know the style, number, whatever I would need to know so I could confidently order those?


I would need three of them - two doors and back hatch.

Well, those lock service kits are not easy to find anymore; you'd be much better off rebuilding the ones you have.   However, if you want to search for them:

Strattec (Briggs & Stratton) Lock Service Pkg - Uncoded is P/N 605965 for all 3 of them (AMC P/N 8122874).   You would then have to get the tumblers and springs you need also (easy-to-get GM parts).

If you want to rebuild the ones you have; its not hard.  I can send you a scan of the AMC pages from the standard Lock Service Manual if you send me your email addy.   I also have caps, shutters, springs, and tumblers.

The chrome caps are Strattec P/N 320376 (AMC P/N 8127677).

The shutters are Strattec P/N 59995 (no AMC P/N).

I really appreciate the info, I was just hoping for the compete unit.  some of the leftover parts I have are too worn, or broken to bother rebuilding.

And I don't seem very adapt at 'recrimping' the outer SS covers/doors.  I made a mess of the last one I did.    

I see Kennedy American has some, but I have no idea what to order.

There's what's left of my lock cylinder (far left) after I've removed it from the outer casing.  It's partly broken.  It was practically falling apart when I took it out of the door.  The spring is long gone.

The far right complete cylinder is a different lock, from a different door.

hi, go to a local locksmith, those guys are really good, it's what they do! i have had several AMC locks repaired this way. good luck, gz

Thanks AMC of Houston, I'm gonna look over that info you sent.  I'll also check out a locksmith and see what my options are.

Don't get gouged by a locksmith; it isn't rocket science!!    Takes about 15 minutes to rebuild each lock.

If you want new, my supplier still has a few of the un-coded black-cap kits left (~$18 each).   I could get those and just assemble them with the chrome caps and shutters, keyed to whatever key you want.

All I'd want is reimbursement for the parts and postage.   Would be another ~$6 each for caps/tumblers/springs.

I just might consider that.  I would want at least 3 then.  Maybe 4.  just to have one as a backup.
