well check the crank sensor and adjusted it just a bit. Still no luck. The engine fires on a couple cylinders but just wont hit on all six. I have re set the distributor till I was blue in the face, re checked the timming gears, and even re checked the plugs on the fuel injectors..all seem to be good. It has a new cap and rotor with a reman distributor. I even pulled the injectors to make sure they were all squirting fuel. The compression it 170 across all cylinders. The only thing I havent done is change plug wires and or try a differant 4.0 distributor. Could they have given me a bad one out of the box? I am at a loss for now I know I have fire it tries to start just not on all six....

got it running....runs really good just have very low oil pressure. I guess it has to come back out. Yes its that low it runs good and doesn’t knock at all but only has 2lbs of pressure.... :(

NOOOOO  the filter is not orange...the oil weight is straight 40 weight and I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge and a oil pressure switch for the oil light. Gauge says 2 lbs. and oil light comes on after 3 mins. of a cold start.

Ok got engine out in record time... 2 hours. Took engine all apart and found a few bad bearings on crank mains and rods. So I dragged the old 4.0 block I had in the corner of the garage and started cleaning it up. Switched oil pick up tube and pans on the 4.0 and started to put the 4.0 back together. Had a friend help me today so things went real well. Have a birthday party tommrow so wont get as much done but will keep at it as long as my back is ok.

Well i installed the old 4.0 and had the same problem. Very low oil pressure. So i had pulled that motor out also and bought a junkyard 4.0 and installed it yesterday and all seems to be good she runs fine with a few tweaks yet needed but will get there. I took the old 4.0 apart and checked everything over. I found that with the new comp cam i installed the lifters they sent were the wrong ones. They fit but were a few thousands off in the diameter so thats where all my oil went. My guess the lifters were for a ford 300 or something. Went through a lot of work for a parts screw up but lesson learned check every new part you get no matter what. Gotta love the fuel injection for a daily driver  :occasion14:

I have been having a hot start issue this past summer fall. I have figured out that when its hot and I try to start her the fuel pump has a very hard time building fuel pressure. It must all drain out of the fuel rail and lines and filter. When cold them pump primes it and she starts up fine. When hot the pump runs and runs for 5 to 10 seconds before it will build up pressure! Not sure why it is doing this but I will be looking for a one way check valve to install in the fuel line. I believe that will take care of it. Not sure when I will get to doing that but it is on my list. I will be on vacation next week deer hunting next week so maybe I will have a pic of the eagle deep in the north woods on a two track trail....hopefully not stuck!!!
                                         Happy Halloween everyone! :eagle:

Vapor lock is pushing the fuel out of the line from the sound of it. That puts a bubble in the pump so the vanes can't make pressure. I added a bleed off valve on my old system to run it when hot.

Fixed the hot start issue...installed a check valve in the gas line. Its a high pressure one for the fuel injection. Then I also installed my speedometer adaptor I pulled from a 93 dakota so now the speedo in the dash and my cruise control work. I am using the cruise off the fuel injection system.
