Missing 4x4 vacuum parts?
« on: May 10, 2012, 12:39:20 AM »
Trouble shooting my inoperative 4x4 system, Figure 2f-4 shows steel lines and bracket for the vacuum tube assembly to attach to.

I have no steel lines or bracket just cable ties in various places to keep lines together and out of the way.

Are the steel lines shown actually missing? Could Someone who is scrapping out an Eagle could pull this line assembly?
Help would be appreciated. Trying to keep this Eagle completely stock. PM please, thanks

You don't say where you are...  I know I have lines for the 84 I'm putting together so if I have lines in the 84 parts wagon they're available.

A have a functioning Shift and Stop (front axle disconnect) system in my Eagle.
No steel lines in there as far as I can tell.

My '82 wagon had the steel lines, but since I'm getting rid of the vacuum front diff, I pulled them out.

Thanks to all that have replied, I was using the TSM, Axle, Section 2F, Fig 2F-4 which shows steel lines.

However the parts diagram 38. 25.1 (Thanks Jurjen), states 1984,1985 Type 1 (stop and shift) has no steel lines

Now I am beginning to think this may have been a running change  as I have a 1983 SX/4 without the steel line setup and may not ever had that setup??

I guess I will just continue with tracing vacuum leaks, all the different color lines are still present, rubber connectors are suspect as they are soft and oil soaked.

Wish me luck and patience!!

My 82 SX/4 which was a stop & shift, does have the steel lines in place, the transfer case actuator is missing(looking for one ), but the steel lines are still there...

If you hunt around you can find connectors. I found a box of rubber T connectors somewhere, but good vacuum hose can work as well.

I'm doing mine up with just plastic lines because only the tcase motor will be needed after the front axle change to non-vacuum.

4 wd now functional, started by checking vacuum canisters, all ok, checked both actuators, both worked ok, changed all vacuum hose connectors to the actuators, plastic lines were fine.
Vacuum on engine was 12 before investigation, now at 16+, car idles better, must be blamed on slight leak with or without 4wd engagement.
I am now convinced that the 83's have a vacuum hose system layout the same as the 84-85 schematic, trouble is there is no layout for the 83's, also no mention of the black plastic hoses along with the normal red, yellow, green and white shown.

Thanks for the help and advice, by the way how do you grease the rear joint of the front driveshaft? Special end on grease gun??

In the blue header bar above the thread there is a working link to the Eaglepedia.  I'm not sure where this would be located but that would be where to start.
