Hi all,  FYI: .. Just heard Crysler was bought out by Fiat .. now F.C.A. it's a done deal.   It's a good thing that american taxpayers bailed them out long enough to be bought out by Fiat... of course I'm kidding.  I wonder if they spun the Jeep line they wanted so badly out as a seperate company before they sold out. Since I just found this out, I still have some digging to do to find out more.

No, in fact there is a Jeep coming out that is really a fiat underneath it all.

Sadly another former great American car manufacturer once known for their engineering talent bites the dust. Wonder how longer itmwill take for the Chrysler nameplates to get killed off. It has been said that history repeats itself, and I see a Renault/Amc type pattern coming where fiat and jeep will take priority, and everything else will be killed off slowly.

There have been TOO many buyouts with Chrysler, including the Gov't. At least AMC only had one buyout! I looked at Jeeps in the past, but I cannot bring myself to own a Chrysler product...sour taste with how they handled AMC's buyout and the Eagle Premier line. Yeah, I have a grudge, but I just don't like Chrysler's. My partner has a 1960 Chrysler Windsor 2 door hardtop, completely restored 100%, it's OK, but meh.

Fiat has owned most of chrysler since 2011, they are now buying the remaining 40 percent they don't already own. chrysler was doomed at the time and the government brokered the deal to get out of the bailout.

It's just business, Renault owns part of Nissan, Ford owns Volvo,  GM owns Isuzu , Mazda, Toyota , Mitsubishi  all have ties with US car makers. It's hard to keep up.... Half the "imports" are now made here in the US.

It's how it is nowadays.

If Fiat hadn't bought Chrysler they would probably be gone by now, instead thier sales are way up, Fiat must be doing something right. I personally don't like the new Cherokee, but they are selling them like crazy, go figure.

Sounds to me that someone with allot of cash needs to start  a new American  car company.  Someone who wont sell it to the highest bidder.

Jeep accounts for about 1/2 of their sales these days.

I'm going to have to go with "Yeah right" on that one.  It's not a car company unless they actually build a car.  They haven't and it's a motorcycle even if they ever do...

Here's 6 reasons why it won't happen http://carbuying.jalopnik.com/six-things-that-could-kill-elio-motors-before-it-even-l-1646776191

In case you're too busy to read it the cliff note version below describes the only person who would be ok with one.

" I've taken it upon myself to write a description of the person who would likely buy one. This person:

Has another car

Has a motorcycle license and helmet

Has no desire to drive other people/has no friends

Has no family

Has a maximum of one child, NO BABIES.

Doesn't care about performance

Doesn't care about refinement/noise level

Doesn't care about ride quality/comfort

Doesn't know the difference between emissions and fuel consumption

Desperately needs attention/female companionship

Has the disposable income to donate thousands to vaporware on a second car, but cheap enough that they can't afford to buy anything else

Has AAA, because there's no spare
"

Besides all that they have promised "next year" for 3 years now...

There is  a thread on the allpar forum about fiat attempting to run jeep, there are members there that are concerned about what jeep is going to become, and how thier CEO dosent understand the brand. It is interesting to read the viewpoints from a former Amc and Chrysler engineer. Don't know if it is true, but the made it sound like the FCA CEO was thinking the old liberty was too capable, and that is why it didn't sell. I hope they manage to do well, but I also hope they don't destroy the legend of the jeep brand.

Ford owns Volvo
Ford sold Volvo in 2010 to a Chinese company and I hate to say it, the new Jaguars seem to be far superior to the ones than under the Ford ownership.
I have no allegiance to Chrysler or Jeep and have no plan to buy a brand new vehicle any time soon, but I would like to see as many jobs stay in the US as possible. I don't care who owns it or what country they are from as long as they keep or bring jobs to North America.
