This is a model 35 rear end ring and pinion. will this work on the eagle? 82 4 door limited.

If you have the 2.35, then it won't drop in.  If you replace with the whole axle, then what about the front diff?

Darn! thats what i have is 2.35's. so could i pull a front and rear diff from an old jeep or something and bolt them in?!

The rears from an XJ are not  big problem to put in your car.  The fronts are a different issue since we have Independent front suspension and Jeeps do not.  I would be curious to see if something from a Dakota or Durango could be used front and rear.

I am not sure on the width of the Dakota ones.  But they were suspended in front like ours.

From what ive read about the front diff in the eagles the pinion and inner splines match? Then again my ignorance to the topic could be confusing me... lol

As the AMC-15 it was used in many AMC car applications, most commonly with four and six cylinder engines.

I've haven't heard of any issues installing lower gears in a rear axle with 2.35's. However, you'll need to change the rear carrier for gears over 3.54. If you have a non disconnect front axle, it's my understanding that 3.54's will work. But, AMC did some funky things to those 2.35 front axles so I'm not sure. For the front you would want a ring and pinion set for a CJ7 Dana 30. 3.54's not 3.55's.  Rock Auto has 3.55's for the rear  for 102.79.

A jeep XJ rear axle can be bought for about the same as the gears alone. If you can install the gears yourself and can also do an axle swap that requires a little modification of the shock mounts, then it's a wash. I don't have the expertise or tools to install a ring and pinion set, but an axle swap was within my capabilities, so that's the route I went. A rear axle cost me $100 and my labor was free. Also, I put in a Chrysler 8.25 which is much stronger than the AMC model 15.

Honestly, I'm "qualified" enough for engine work like basic stuff and head swaps and things but as far as a axle swap. How much goes into the or what are the main complications i may run into?

Swapping an entire, as eaglefreak says, is easier, after the XJ  lower shock mounts are swapped around -- they are opposite to the Eagle ones.

Your best swap is a whole XJ rear diff. You get better brakes and just need to swap shock mounts.
