Squeaky! Please help!
« on: August 21, 2014, 01:04:26 AM »
I'm a little new to the forum and I need help. My 84 wagon is super Squeaky on the front drivers side and I don't know what to do! I already replaced the shocks. What else should I try?  :eaglebig:

Where is the noise coming from and more important WHEN?
It's been a while since I've driven one of these and I've been through enough that I can at piece together a small list:
• Grease or replace the upper ball joints
• Look for damage on the sway bar or its links
• Replace the lower control arm bushings
• Replace strut bushings

Could be a control arm bushing, but most likely it's a ball joint and probably not greaseable. I found out by poking a hole in my upper balljoint boot and spraying lube into it. The noise stopped, but just for a few weeks. Once it starts squeaking it's a sign it's on it's way out.

I had a rock stuck in the bottom of my old springs that did that. Plus the swaybar end links.

You will have to locate it on your own. Could be any of the above suggestions. I would suggest spraying bushings one at a time with silicone and test driving to see if you can locate the issue.

If it is squeaky when you press down on the fender, I would start with the upper control arm bushings. If the rubber looks cracked and dried out then they need to be replaced for best results.
