Autometer oil pressure gauge.
« on: January 31, 2014, 05:46:39 PM »
I was wondering if I could use the port by the oil filter to install an aftermarket mechanical oil pressure gauge. See picture.I know that the factory idiot light hooks up to a port further back on the block but would I would like to save the trouble of installing a T-fitting if I can use this port. Has anyone done this? Good idea or bad idea?

Regardless of which location you choose, you will thank yourself for doing it.  You may also want to consider a volt meter too.   My gauge "trio" consists of an oil pressure gauge, voltage gauge and a mini tach.  All were great additions.

Yep, got a voltmeter, mechanical water temp and oil pressure gauge. And a tach. I think I'll hook up the oil pressure gauge to this port and see what happens. But was just curious as to why AMC would go to the expense of machining two ports? Is the one by the oil filter used in an another vehicle? Is the oil pressure going to read the same at both ports?  Maybe one is more accurate?
