85 Sedan - Denver
« on: October 27, 2013, 08:16:34 PM »
Found an 85 Sedan at the LKQ Pull N Save in Denver near Peoria and Smith Road.  Its nice that this junkyard has started posting their inventory online.

Not too much special about this one, other that its an Eagle.  124000 miles, looks like it was probably in decent shape before it got to the junkyard.  Somebody broke the underdash tray, and also the passenger visor bracket.  I thought a found a treasure when I found an unbroken hood release handle, but then it turned out the cable itself was broken.  I did grab the radio (single din pushbuttons and dial), intermittent wiper control switch, single din radio bezel (the part at the top that attaches to the dash has been broken but its still usable for anybody that wants to install a modern radio), and the front marker lights.  The vinyl roof had been replaced with spray on bedliner.

The fourth photo shows some sort of box on the passenger side in the engine compartment on top of the wheel well.  I'd never seen or noticed it before.  Is it  cruise control???

They also had a 62 Rambler American 500.  There was still a lot there.  I grabbed the radio out of that one too, there must be somebody out there that needs it.

No clue as to what that box is or  what it was for.    I thought maybe auto load leveling, but I don't think so.

If its got you stumped then it is a real head scratcher!  If I go back next weekend I'll have to pay closer attention to it. Or maybe will provide an answer this week.

My car dosent have that, so it is either a factory option, or an aftermarket part. It seems that you get all of the eagles that end up in the junkyard near you. Theres one near me that I've just about cleaned out, at least what wasn't already taken.

IIRC, that's where the little compressor goes.

I've seen a car with the compressor before, and I think it was attached to the shock tower.  Also, it didn't have a box like this, it was right out in the open, but that box could have been lost somewhere along the way.  Also, I think this one just had wires going in, no hoses or anything.  I should have taken a picture of the other side   :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Oh well, just another excuse to go back to the junkyard next weekend!

Have no clue what the box is nor have I ever seen one. Will sure be interesting to find out! Sure seems like you find or get all the junked eagles your way. I guess some things in life are just not fair. But good for you and at least its not crushed.

Now I'll definitely have to go back next weekend and get more clues on the purpose of the box.

And we do get relatively a lot of Eagles in the junkyards around here.  As Eaglefreek noted, 6 or 7 years ago you could almost always find a handful of Eagles in any yard.  Now it seems like one pops up every two or three months.

And I think the proper thing to say is "at least its not crushed....yet."  Cars stay in these yards about 2 or 3 months, then its off to AMC heaven.  You gotta grab the parts you need while you can.  Its really helfpul now that the junkyards post their inventory online so I can keep track of when they become available.

yeah, the compressor mounts to the shock tower.  Unless it is some kind of aftermarket load leveler.  Sure does not look like anything I have ever seen on an AMC car and I have seen a lot of them.  Will be interesting to learn more about that mystery box.

I went back and checked out the mystery box.  It seems to be some sort of cruise control, there are some wires that plug in that seemed to go to the controls, and then a cable that hooked onto the accelerator cable.  I also grabbed the hood release cable, the cable itself including the handle is good but the sheathing is broken in a couple spots.
