steering wheel
« on: November 19, 2013, 11:14:45 AM »
I assume this is the spot I should put this, but anyway, I have been noticing on some videos and pictures I see and was wondering if there's an sx4 and an sx4 sport model?  (this may be a dumb question). the first sx4 I looked at buying was red, and had the "racing" wheel, where it was the small circle and spokes, and black seats, versus a brown one like the one in looking to buy, had tan interior, and the wheel with the bar running through te middle, more like the wagon I believe.  So is there 2 models or what? I'm just curious.. And on a side note, how hard would it be to change them out?

Yes, the 3 spoke wheel is from a Sport model. And swapping them is no big deal.

Here are a couple more varietys of AMC steering wheels to chose from. They all interchange. I don't have a pic but in our Spirit we found a really cool wheel from a Jeep J10 pickup that just had the AMC logo in the center instead of the Jeep logo, got it from the pick N pull, it has three spokes that are metal as well but without the holes like the one below

Thanks, I figured, but it makes me sad I'm not getting a sport... What else do they include that the normal don't have... I've read before they came with whitewall tires or something?

Oh and this looks similar to the last one, but would you know if this (1995 jeep Reo Grande) would fit?

Sports were a trim package based on the DL trim line.  For the SX/4 Sport model that included:  Color Keyed Vinyl Sport Steering Wheel;  Floor Shift Console; low gloss black Kraton wheel flares, rocker panel and trap moldings; color coordinated inserts on the body side molding; black bumpers; black accents on the tail lamp lenses; blackout treatment around the tail lamps; black grille insert;, headlamp bezels, drip belt, windshield and liftgate molding, and"B" pillar.  Dual Sport Mirrors and "Sport" name plates.     NOTE:  Sport packages did not include the spoiler.  That was an option.

Wonder how many sport models were sold without the spoiler? It just wouldn't seem complete without it!

We have seen quite a few here.  I agree, it really makes the Sport model that much better looking.

Just realized the one in looking to buy doesn't have a spoiler.  :(

They do come up for sale once in a while.  Kind of a pain to install one on car that did not come with one.  AMC Spirits used the same spoiler.

Yeah, you have to have a button to pop the hatch as the spoiler covers the hatch key hole.

on many of the amc designed jeeps, the steering wheel will feet the eagle column, the one you found in that picture of a yj, is basically rhe exact same steering wheel with a different center cap. I've currently got a steering wheel out of an 86 grand wagoneer in my eagle, it is currently temporary, but if I figure out how to change the logo, it might become permanent.
