Do a search on changing the pinion seal. It's not so bad, but there are a couple of places you have to be careful, and you can always have bad luck and end up collapsing the crush washer.

It could be the bearing back there as well being a bit dry. How much did you add to the front diff and can you tell if it's leaking around the pinion seal?

I would want to drop it down and clean it out well. Maybe there's some sludge or something preventing enough oil from getting back to that bearing.

If it's not leaking oil and it's worn something just isn't getting lubricated in there.
