Louver ID help needed and some info on other louvers
« on: June 16, 2011, 05:43:53 PM »
I have read multiple times on multiple AMC forums that the metal louvers from and AMX will cross onto hornet, concord AMX, and spirit (sx/4). I Can now say this is not the case. I recently purchased a set metal ones off an old amx and a NOS set that the owner swore was for some AMC, but could not remember what.

This is a random plastic set I have that fits SX/4-Spirits

This is the side view of the AMX louvers sitting beside them (these are heavy duty louvers), as you can see the AMX louvers are to short for the spirit glass.  The set closest to the bottom are the mystery louvers.

These are lighter than the AMX louvers and smaller. The guy selling them swore they belong on an AMC and offered a refund if I can't match them to one.

The 1/4 louvers have a lock and rod set of some sort.

I need to ID these soon so I can either refund or sell them. Any tips appreciated.

No info to offer, but I would buy a set of louvers off you for an SX/4  ;D.

The mystery louvers could be for a real AMX ('68-'70), or Javelin AMX ('71-'74).  They had smaller windows, and buy what I can picture in my head, it looks like thats what you have possibly.

@amc78concord:  I'd agree with that.

Unless it's the 1979-80 AMX (which it's body style is the Spirit- which should fit the SX/4) they won't fit.  the 1968-70 AMX is a different car body style.

I  knew the body styles were different threw the years though I never put much thought into window size. I had read a few places that the louvers crossed, which didn't seem to outlandish for AMC. Its good to know otherwise.  Either way I'm glad to have saved the heavy set. I think I'm going to return the mystery pair or trade it back for a few parts.

did you return the mystery pair?  did you ever get measurements? it might be exactly what a friend of mine is needing.. instead of cutting one of mine up to refit for him.

They look like 1977 Hornet AMX louvers to me. This picture confirms that Hornets had 6 blades and a very tiny set of louvers just like that.

A '78 Concord AMX would have the same as a '77 Hornet AMX. The black car is a '78 Concord AMX. I also have photos of a 69 or 70 AMX with louvers on it and no pictures of a Javelin with louvers. The black car is a '72 Javelin rear glass.
