New Guy 84 Limited Wagon
« on: November 21, 2012, 06:56:46 PM »
Hi all,

Been lurking and reading a LOT of helpful info here for awhile, thought I better sign up so I can actually ASK questions!

This is a great forum, and I have noticed a lot of helpful folks are on here

I have an 84 Limited Wagon, the good news is it have very good paint, nice interior and runs good (ECM Test bypass)
Bad news is I have some frame rot on the drivers side where the shock tower connects, started noticing noises and tire wear and alignment going away...

So, have the engine out and currently making some structural repairs, luckily I can make metal peices and weld

While the engine is out (btw what a pain to remove!) I am doing some freshing of the engine and some upgrades, hope to get her back on the road someday, its a sweet riding and driving machine, sure hate it will be out of commision for the winter.... the sad thing is there is ZERO rust anywhere else on the entire car!

Also, big AMC guy for years and years, currently also have 78 Concord AMX, 74 Gremlin X, 81 Spirit GT as well as a couple of parts and peices cars

Thanks for letting me join in on all the fun,

Rob C

Thanks for the compliments!
Worked on it today, gotmsome nasty rust issues where the shock tower meets the frame rail on the drivers side, had to remove the engine to make repairs.
Cut out the rust today back to good metal, now to fab some pieces and get to welding,
Gonna try to make it better, stronger, faster than it ever was before.....

Still dont know whynit decided to rust in that particular spot, i looked over the whole car today, not a spot anywhere else? Maybe some kinda defect?

Welcome! That is one beautiful Eagle you got there! white on white is sooo classy looking. Thats very odd that it would have only rusted in that one spot. My experience with these cars has been if one area is rotted out everywhere else is too. i suppose it could have been a defect in the Ziebart undercoating that possibly caused it to trap moisture in that particular area.

Rob, I saw this post and sorry I didn't reply earlier. Nice looking wagon. It's almost a twin to my 86 before the aftermarket bumpers were added. You mentioned you are in Manchester which isn't too far from me. I've lived in Fayetteville for 3 years and have yet to see Manchester. I might need an excuse to get out that way.
This is what my 86 looked like when I got it:

Wow, nice Eagle!

Bring one of them over when you come! Its only about 45 mins or so, go to Fayetville for ball games several times a year

MIne is currently undergoing surgury.......... will be a few months before she is back on the road again Im afraid

Where did you get that roof rack? Is that factory? I hope to add one someday, been looking at the rain gutter ones, but Im not sure how they look when on an eagle since the gutter ends at the doors

Thanks. Yes it's factory. Actually the roof rack delete cars are rarer than the roof rack cars, not that it matters. You are probably better off with a gutter mount, there can be leaks from the factory racks. I made a few changes since I bought it ,though.  ;D Any good wings place in Manchester? That's the only excuse I need.  :occasion14:

Ok deal, you come to Manchester , I will buy the wings!

could use some advise on which way to go with my Eagle, would appreciate a second opinion on a few things

I have some frame rot I'm fixing currently, the engine is in the floor , so it's a good time to consider some changes from pure stock

The body is good, the paint is excellent, the interior is very nice (exept for the collapsed springs in the seat) but it needs some attitude I think to take it to the next level

I really like those wheels btw, I used to have a Comanchee (only new vehicle I have ever bought) it had those wheels, we have a very nice pick n pull that has three comanchees, might have to go lookin
