I know I'm reviving an old post <sorry> but I have to say~

I drive to Portland daily, NE Portland from a little past Welches (90 miles round trip). Our Eagle made it in and out of Portland with no problem on a daily basis. It's when I decided to venture into Kennewick, Washington...that's when it hit the fan (and the fender, and the radiator and the hood, bumper etc etc etc). BaldEagle posted pictures of the crunched Eagle and as far as I know it'll probably live in central Washington for it's remaining days. >:(

My bird finally got a nice little smush in the front quarter panel yesterday afternoon. For some reason it doesn't seem like such a big deal to me anymore about keeping these cars pretty. Just keep them working right. Doc helped me in SE Portland one day after I pulled up to a gas station and filled 9 gallons. He had a green 69 Rambler and it was sporting the cute little 232 L6 with an MSD ignition, donut aircleaner and TFI upgrade. Beautiful machine. Has a nasty valve cover leak though. :/

Once we're no longer AMCless it'd be great to get together with some folks in the Portland area from the forum!

I'll say I loved our Eagle so much, had it not been twisted in the wreck - I think we would've kept it. Granted the hood would've been difficult to deal with until it was replaced. But those are rock solid cars. My Eagle was hit by an Excursion (well, really the Eagle hit the Excursion, but the Excursion was the cause of the accident), so the impact along with the height difference in the vehicles made for a nice mess. I was going 35, chatting with my son, when I realized we were going to hit, I slammed on the brakes and plowed right into the Excursion. The damage to the car was sad, but the damage to us was somewhat minimal. My 19 year-old son had a sore chest and a bit of bruising from the seat belt, my back and hip popped out of place caused by the seat belt, and my neck and shoulder got whipped a bit. All in all, not bad.

Those AMCs are worth having even if banged up, they are stout, solid vehicles.
