Right, continuing on from my "hatchlings" post.
I was hoping to have a more regular "project car" thread, but we're gonna start this one in media res.
I'd been driving my Eagle pretty consistently for thee last 3 weeks, fixing vacuum leaks from the GRONK conversion and messing with the new HEI trying to get 'er running really nice. The plan was to drive it through the winter, buy a parts XJ, and do head swap, AW4 and MPI over the summer. Then, this morning, loading up shovels and rakes and other instruments of destruction to go load a trailer full of wood chips, FIRE!!!
Looks like the blower motor seized up or something, but there was a small unplanned fire. Blower fan and motor are TOAST. Wires that go to the heater controls and stereo? Also toast. Heat core? Very likely toasted. The big loss I think though is the heater box and the center defrost vent. Both are severely melted. Also casualties of the fire are various dash pieces. They used to be in great shape, but removing a 35 year old dash causes problems with brittle plastic.
So obviously my plans have changed a bit. Fix the heaterbox and dash, while i'm in there swap the steering column, and get 'er back on the road. Does anybody know if there's another heaterbox that will fit? Or does anyone have one for sale?
