Yes, acquire is a better term to use.  They had so much better cold weather stuff than we had.  I could not figure that out since they mostly were inside of warm places with real heaters, walls, bunks, etc.  Do you know what Quonset huts were insulated with?  Nothing.  And, our diesel oil stoves, one at each end of the hut only warmed within one foot of the stove.  Oh well, it made men of us.
