Limited wagon
« on: August 16, 2011, 04:25:08 PM »
Hey...new member here. I don't own an Eagle, but I had a 1981 Limited wagon as my first car in high school back in the '80s. It was my father's old car, and as a teenager, I thought it was extremely slow and beat the heck out of it. Recently I found the window sticker and thought I'd share it here, as it was a pretty loaded car. I will try to post some pics of the actual car itself in the future.

These are the only pictures I can find at the moment. Judging by the date (November 1990), I took these on the last day I owned it.

In addition to all those options, it also came through with a tilt steering wheel, which surprised my father when he picked it up new, as he had not ordered or paid for that particular feature. Must have been a line mistake or all they had available at the time.

No idea if it still exists, although it does have a couple old hits in Massachusetts if you run it through Carfax. Here's the complete VIN if anyone wants to attempt to track it down:

Nice Car but one question? What is this front suspension skid plate?
I Don't know why. But everybody's always talking about their STI or That guys EVO, I think I'll stick with my old, but reliable AmC. Did I ever tell you I was Full blooded Eagle?

Yeah, my memory is vague, but there was a heavy flat piece of metal mounted underneath the front bumper and it shielded the front of the engine. The one time I took the car through deep mud, a lot of debris came up on top of the plate from the back and eventually sheared the alternator belt a day or so later.

A skid plate is on my 83 Limited. It looks pretty good but I'll have to take it off one of these days just to clean up.

I always assumed the skid plate was standard equipment.  Maybe AMC made it an option in later years as a way to increase revenue.

Standard equipment or not, we can all agree it's better to have it.

According to the January 1, 1980 AMC Parts Price List, the optional front suspension skid plate, part number 3236927, was offered at the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $28.16. By 1986 the price had increased to $86.00 and then to $91.00 in 1987.
