'84 vs '86 wagon compatibility
« on: July 11, 2017, 05:23:47 AM »
Hey everyone, just a quick question. Any differences between the 84 and 86 I should be aware of? Currently own a 84 with a blown 258 and rusted out frame. About to buy 86 in good running condition. Both automatic, but if I use parts from the 84 for the 86, is there anything that won't fit? Thanks again!

They are practically identical. The only differences would be the 86 has a 128 transfer case and I think the 84 will have an axle disconnected, but the 86 doesn't. The 84 may have a lockup torque converter so if you swap transmissions, keep the torque converter with the transmission it came from.

Thank you for that! Hoping the one I pickup on monday doesnt need anything major like that. But i got an 84 with a blown 258 in it that i can use for backup parts, just wanted to make sure they were close enough for most things.
