Oil pan gasket/RMS

Ran a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer thru Z2 with the last oil change and now my RMS has a slow but steady drip. Bought the oil pan gasket and RMS, climb under the car and  that's not quite as easy as I thought it would be.

Read the Eaglepedia how-to and it's quite involved, more than just a day project.

So my question is of all the bottles of stuff on the shelf at the autopart store that claim to stop oil leaks which one actually works? Normally I would NEVER do something like this but I don't have the time to yank the engine at the moment. It's not a gusher but more of a slow leak that needs a quart every 1,ooo miles or so.

I tried Bars Leak in an old van and it didn't work, but it was an old rope style seal. Here's some info. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/2126486/1 Maybe try the Maxlife oil first.

Wait a sec! Don't do the bottle of stuff yet! First, make sure the PCV system isn't clogged. (clean/replace valve, PCV hose gets filled with gunk too. Clean the Port on the Intake the hose goes to) and make sure the breather for the air going IN to the motor isn't gummed up as well. Excess crank pressure causes seals to seat too tight, which burns them up and they shrink away from the surface they are supposed to seal.

Racers add a vacuum pump to make negative pressure (AKA vacuum) in the crankcase to avoid seal leaks.

PCV system working great, everything is new.

Experimented awhile with the rear hose drawing fresh air(as it should) but not much luck, always had oil coming out. Both ports are now drawing vacuum. Less than 100k on this engine and it was rebuilt by one of the big name engine rebuilders. Seems to be on the HWY at high RPM's for extended periods that the PCV can't keep up. All 3 of my 258 powered vehicles do this.

Hey zoro,

I put a vented oil filler cap on one of mine and several oil leaks went away, worth a shot

I think I had too much pressure for the PVC to keep up, prob lots of blow by maybe, but it dried right up

Do you remember where you got your vented cap?  I'd like to try that...

I picked up an aftermarket one that fit, iits an edelbrock

Got it in the Crome stuff section at autozone I think



Mine has the replacement  valve cover so it's just the rubber grommet hole kind and not the twist in kind

I have the aluminum valve cover on Z2.

Are you running the chrome breather that goes in place of the PCV or the 710 cap? Got a pic?

No the PVC is still there, it goes where the oil filler hole is, the front one

You need both the breather in and PCV out for the system to work or blowby pressure builds up inside. Even on new motors.
