hi has anyone used the Taylor coil # 718205 made for Duraspark ignitions, info says it has 0.700 primary resistance, and Summit says that it both does and does not need a ballast resistor. If its made as a replacement for a Duraspark ignition (mine is 84 Eagle 258), should it not be  usable as a stock replacement? Am I missing something here? thanks gz

I'm not an electrical expert, but I think the factory coil has a primary resistance of almost 1.5 ohms. So at half the resistance there is a chance you might have an issue with the Duraspark module. There should be a resistance wire already in your wiring and you definitely would want to keep that in the loop. There was a thread about a Pertronix coil a few years ago that has 3 ohm primary resistance and would be able to be run without the resistance wire.  I bought one and it only lasted 3 months. I've got a MSD Blaster II that is 9 years old and still working great. I did have it connected to the Durapsark for a couple years, but I replaced my Duraspark with a MSD a few years ago. So to answer your question, maybe.  ;D

I went HEI and got rid of the resistor on all but my wagon.
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

HEI is the way to go, especially if you grab the bits inside that may go bad as a backup. Too easy.
