Stolen gremlin in Florida near Boca Raton. HOA towed active duty soldier's '72 Grem from her home at Kelly's Margate Townhomes in Florida by West Way Towing while she was overseas and sold it at auction. Yup; Home Owners' Association.   Here in Texas, over the last 5 years a bunch of new laws have been put in place to reel in out-of-control HOA's.   My HOA is a bunch of laid-back good-ol'-boys (I'm on the Board) that actually want folks to enjoy living here!!    Guess I'm lucky...........

Same here in northern Illinois, except for myself and one other  board member they're all good ol' gals.
Our restrictions don't deal with cars , the county has laws for cars.

I grew up in and lived in Reston Va. for over 20 years The home owners association in that place was ruthless. Was so glad to move out. Made us pant our basketball back board match the siding on the house.
I have heard the ones in Florida are worse.
I feel kinda lucky the one I live in now is kinda lax.
