Carpeting, Window / Door seals...need help
« on: March 31, 2014, 08:49:58 AM »
Howdy all,

Been trying to find window and door seals for my wagon, for some reason I'm either searching for the wrong thing, they don't exist or I just can't seem to find them.

The rubber around my doors/hatch is pretty gamey, and the seals that keep water from inside my doors by the windows could stand replacing as well, I noticed 1 is cracked and corroded pretty badly.

Also, anyone know of a Canadian company that sells the replacement carpeting? I've found some, not sure if they are in Canada or not. 1 place has the regular carpets OR molded vinyl replacement flooring (kind of leaning towards this as it wouldn't rot : http://www.accmats.com/Products/Flooring/Vinyl.aspx ).

I got mine through amcrambler. Haven't taken them out of the box yet. But I got the window channels and sweeps.

I think you can call Blazer auto as well and they have everything.

Check with Den member Tennessee_Farmer.  He may have some of the these parts.

For the window channel rubbers, the ones amcramber sells do not have the moulded rubber corners like the originals (the 90-degree corners at the top); they are punched and cut to make the corner.  Due to the lack of rubber filling in the top corners, you may (or may not) get some wind noise there by your left ear while driving.

That said, if you want to try and make your own, that window channel rubber can be bought by the foot at a number of places (like JC Whitney & Steele Rubber).

When I was looking for some for my wagon I contacted Tennessee Farmer. He sold me a complete set that not only looked great but fit perfect. I personally would contact him first with your needs.

Were the channels cut in the 90 degree corners like mentioned above or were they molded with the angle like the originals?

Thanks for the links, everybody. My 81 SW window frame seals/sweepers are also gamey (alot of whistlin going on). I sent a PM to TF asking him if he is custom making the seals. If so, multiple orders might be better.

I've bought the window seals and sweeps from him. along with a number of clips, etc.  Everything has been first rate, and he's a good guy.  He sent very detailed instructions and pictures for installing the window seals.

hi ALL carpets for older cars , no matter who sells them, are made by Auto Custom Carpet (ACC) look them up on the web and buy direct. other guys just get them there and mark them up. Btw, it's good stuff, I just put a  new carpet in my 84 sedan, real nice! they come oversize, so pull out as much of your old one as will stay in on piece, lay it over the new one, and carefully trim to fit, about $120 for basic, $150 for the extra underpad (recommended) and then some shipping, basically $200 will get you back to new, including that new car smell! Other sites sell the same thing for anywhere from $250 plus shipping to $450 plus shipping. ok, window channels. I just bought a pair from a good AMC dealer , nice guy, I buy a lot from him, at $40.  for each window. Well sometimes a guy just has to save a buck or two, so I did some research. Rock Auto sells a generic window channel Fairchild #0566-8 for about $17 for 8 feet, or one window. Less than half price. Just bought 2 and redid my rear doors, fit great. What you want is a 7/16" base, with a 5/8" height. All of these, even the AMC dealer ones, are generic, meaning they do not have a dedicated corner. All you have to do is get to that corner, eyeball it, and cut a "V" in the sides, NOT the 7/16" base, and it will fold into a perfect 45 degree angle. 4 doors, I'm done! what a job, my hands are ripped to shreds after dealing with inside door sheet metal for about a week. Whew! ok , hinge pins. The NAPA number you want is #675-5142. This is a GM part, about $5 for ONE pin and bushings, or about $10 a door. The bushings are a perfect fit, IF your holes are not too worn. The pin is slightly larger than stock, use an "R" drill to enlarge the pin holes. Since you're only going a couple of thousands over, you don't have to worry about perfect hole alignment, just drill as straight as you can and you'll be fine. If your door hinges are Waaaayyyyyy worn out, to the point where you think you can't save them, try this. Get the NAPA pin and bushing set #675-1594, for Jeep. These are much larger than stock AMC. Mic the bushings and drill out the holes, Mic the pin and again drill. I just saved an "82 hinge, that was so worn you could almost stick your little finger through the bushing holes, for about $8. The benefit is that now you have a much stronger pin and bushing set, and you can open/close your door next to forever. Ok thats it for today. Please don't ask me for links and/or pictures, I'm a computer Luddite, heck, it took me three days just to figure out how to register on this forum! Anybody got a good right hand rear view mirror (big square style) for an Eagle? Thanks.
