Eagle in shop finally!! couple of questions! and updates!

Found out the 84 eagle, does not have a transmission problem, but a transfer case problem, Now would these be hard to rebuild or is it better to get a used one?

I have several of them for $50 each in Seattle. I took the tailcone off for the NP229s we put in our Eagles but they had nothing wrong with them. We just wanted low range. I also have a NP219 for $100 in good condition (full time 4x4 with 4 hi lock and low range)
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

They can be rebuilt.  I had mine rebuilt, I believe the cost was about $400, including removal and installation.

Yes, but if I can get a used one for around 200, Ill just save this one for a rebuild when needed. It sitting in the shop now thats the only problem. I have to find one quick. Then ill take mine somewhere cheaper to have it rebuilt then the shop its at now. always have a back up   ;D

Well my TC needs a new VC, as it shattered inside, anyone know if I can just remove it and have it work like a open differential?  or does it have to be in there?

It has to be there unless you can find a NP228 or NP128 without the VC. Some people have drilled through the VC and put bolts in but it doesn't work as a diff after that. I think the write up is on IFSJA. org
