rumble of death
« on: January 11, 2014, 03:19:47 PM »
Okay on to the next problem!

When i really get after the eagle and floor it i can create an incredible rumble-
somewhere during acceleration the wagon tries to shake itself apart- if i let go of the gas it stops immediately

I can get more details of the problem just curious if anyone else has seen this before?

thanks

"Rumble"

Are you talking about the "Death wobble" in the front end?  Shakes the steering wheel?

If not, it could be a U-joint going bad.

Ujoints or the tcase chain/bearings can do that as well.

I did have an old ford that broke and engine mount and if you accelerated hard, it would lift the side of the engine and put the driveline in a semi-bind causing the ujoints to make some noise.

Could it just be a rear wheel bearing going?

Or maybe the infamous busted right axle.  That could possibly do it only on accel during the early stages, until the splines strip completely.

My gut reaction is a bad engine or transmission mount. Especially the transmission mount is prone to separating due to years and years of oils soaking in to it.
