Will a motorcraft carb from a Ford 302 from a 1970 Mustang work on a AMC 258 engine? An what are these carbs worth the guy says he cant find numbers on it an on the back it says Carter Climate Control.

Wait, why do you have a Carter choke on a Motorcraft carb? Do you actually understand how to get that to work correctly? O_o

yea that is the weird thing guy says motorcraft carb from 70 302 mustang. but when he took a picture of the bottom of it say carter climatic control an below that it says lean. sounds more like a carter carb than a motorcraft carb an he could not even answer the size or how long the carb has been sitting. just that it needed rebuilt

I have put a motorcraft carb on my eagle, as have many others on here, there are lots of threads on this topic and even a whole section about the conversion

Search for motorcraft 2150

It won't just bolt up, there is an adaptor needed plus changes to the linkage and some other stuff

End result however is it runs MUCH better!

I went from a Carter feedback carb to an older Carter downdraft and I'd imagine it's about the same. At the very least you'll have to get rid of the stock base plate and get an aftermarket adapter to fit the Motorcraft. Those are like $20. I think there's some fabrication work involved for the return spring but it's been a while since I've seen one of these carbs and I avoid them as much as possible. I originally did all of this because of some changes to the air system and emissions removal. If you change the carburetor to anything other than a Carter then you're forced to change out the THERMAC and that triggers a lot of changes.

For me I have had NOTHING from the start. No CTO, an air line that never worked because of a stuck actuator, stuck THERMAC switches and God knows what other problems. I tore out all the excessive crap from my distributor and plumbed it to the ported vac on the side of the carb. Plumbed one PCV to the base of the carb and the other to an open breather cap. Capped off all the little limbs on the carb and the rest goes to manifold and charcoal canister. I still have problems but they're almost entirely related to the excessive engine wear. I need to do a full rebuild and I don't have the storage space.
