Dash light bulbs and such
« on: March 21, 2013, 09:03:38 PM »
Hi
I have a silly question, I have the Eagle manual MR 251 in the area of replacing light bulbs it gives ya details on the dash lights ( a how to do it ). I have removed the screws suggested but I can't get the darn dash to tilt backward? What am I missing? Do you have to feed the speedo cable in to give you slack to tilt the dash out on top of the steering column? I hate using a flash light to see how fast I'm going, of course the light shinning on the clock still works go figure!

It's been a while since I've removed mine, but if I remember correctly, I unhooked the speedo cable from the transmission (don't have cruise control) to give me slack so I could pull out the cluster.

Probably the speedo cable, like eaglefreek said, I think if you have cruise you might be able to disconnect it along the firewall too, never done it but have read that somewhere

It is easier to remove the radio when trying to disconnect the speedo than you can shove your arm through that hole.

I've also been able to reach up under the dash and remove the speedo cable while lying on my back, and I think I also removed the package shelf under the dash for easier access.  Good luck.

On mine I removed the radio and then found I could get my small hand in behind the cluster and get to the bulbs. Found this out the hard way. I had my cluster out to change the non working tach to one of Vangremlins working replacement ones and while I had the cluster out seemed like a good idea to change the bulbs too. Put the cluster back in and finally got the speedo cable back on and thought I would check the lights before going futher. Glad I did one did not come on. Thats when I discovered I could reach the bulbs without removing the cluster again and the pita speedo cable.
