How bad is it?
« on: November 22, 2012, 01:20:24 PM »

Photo's of the rust I'm dealing with.. Have not been able to get it on a rack yet to get photo's of much else of the frame but after seeing the driver side frame I'm a bit worried.

Not impossible, as I've certainly seen worse resurrected.

Having said that though, I hope you know a good welder who owes you a big favor.  Or hopefully you have the skills and means to take it on yourself.

Actually neither at this point.. I may try and talk to the local Tech shop.. Or this may be 1 short lived Eagle that I'll just have to dive till it falls apart..

If you are referring to the floorboards not at all just edges..  Peeled that up to get to the stuff in the frame.. and I only moved metal that would move. Tapping the frame I did not get any soft spots.. Had same issue on passenger side and was able to locate holes but only holes that are suppose to be there ;D

As a further note I located a yard with a front sub-frame for $75, any thought on price and if worth getting. Sandblast it and Powder coat it?

Look forward to hearing suggestions

Are you talking about the engine crossmember that holds the lower control arms?

I feel bad because I'm not sure I asked the guy if he had a front Sub-frame and he said he did in the warehouse for $75. The item wasn't high on my list so didn't go further to see..

Being a uni-body car, the only thing I can think of that would be called a "sub frame" is something that bolts on. The only piece that could possibly called a sub frame, would the engine crossmember.  I am sure someone here on the 'nest would have a parts car with that part if in fact that is what you needed.  If the part you need is welded in as part of the uni-body structure, you will need a donor car with good parts to cut off and weld onto your rusted out body.
