Picked up the free Eagle yesterday
« on: April 02, 2014, 06:41:07 PM »
I went to pick up the Eagle in this thread: http://forums.amceaglesden.com/index.php?topic=40075.0  After waking up at 4:00 am, I left Hesperia CA with full tanks of fuel headed toward Grass Valley CA.  I arrived a little after 1:00pm.

After meeting everyone, we filled the bed of the truck with all the parts: engine block, head, 2- front diffs, exhaust system, wiring, manifolds, grille and headlights, and misc parts.  I was also given the engine stand that the block was bolted to.

The weather was not terrible, it was just raining a little.  It could have been much worse, as it snowed a few days before.  The Eagle was strapped behind his Cherokee, and pulled out in the street:

The car was lined up with the trailer and pulled on with a come-along:

After a 20 hour day, I arrived home at 12:30 that night.  The car and all made it safe:

I now have the job of putting it all back together!   There is only a few parts missing, but not a big deal.  I will need a new flex plate and torque converter.  The old flex plate had a crack almost 3/4 of the way around the center.  That was the whole reason for the tear down.  It was thought to be a rod knock, but the bottom end looks great. There was also an aluminum valve cover, MC2100 carb, and some new Ujoints as part of the deal.  Even though it will be a lot of work,  it will be a great car when finished.....Rich

Glad you had a safe and uneventful trip. Looks like you snagged a decent car and should be a neat restoration project. Look forward to seeing your progress

970 is pretty impressive for going it alone! Me and Andy's trip a couple weekends ago was a little over 1300, but we weren't alone!

Yes it is, and I can't remember how many years ago I did similar  length drives without sleep.  The last few trips I took I was lucky to do 6-700 miles in a day without falling asleep.  But yes it is nice to have a co-driver....Rich

I have decided that I have too many projects, and don't have the time to put this car back together.  I am selling it for not much more than I got in it.  $900 for everything. Check out:
