Drive shaft joint replacments.
« on: April 23, 2012, 04:47:52 AM »
Hello. Previously I was working on my 1984 Eagle sedan and noticed the joint at the rear drive shaft had a bit of play side wise on the joint before it connected to the rear axle. I was wondering where are some stores to find replacements. Also would this cause any vibration problems. As i have noticed the rear end seems to start vibrating around 75-80mph and gets worse, though it has been a little better since I replaced the rear suspension.

Thanks for the reply's. I checked Napa and all they list is u-joints for the front axle. Autozone does have one though, would this work?

If its the standard 1310 u joint it is what i use on my 84 sedan. 1310 is like an industry standard name.

Here is a good write up on u joints.

Thanks, do brands matter? I have noticed people on jeep forums mention spicer so I checked them out and they only cost 5 bucks more, is it worth it? what do people think of duralast?

so your vote goes to spicer then. The vibrating it does whenever it runs is still a bit annoying, it almost does not vibrate at all when running(besides when going 70) but does it more whenever in gear and I have it stopped at a light with the brakes. Had a friend look at it how works on racing cars and he said something about the torque converter needing tightened?

FWIW, all four u-joints on my '84 wagon are the same part number (Precision #369 is what I got at Auto Value). I would assume that all the long-wheelbase Eagles are the same.

Duralast = dontlast
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
