Your AMC Eagle original mechanical speedometer cable and its built in transfer case adaptor will fit into any New Process transfer case, including the 242. The options I list are really for people who want to install an electric speed sensor to power Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) or Multi Port Fuel Injection (MPI).
I also posted immediately before that my driveshaft solution when I installed a slip yoke 242 into my Eagle. The XJ slip yoke is directly compatible with original AMC Eagle Ujoints, you simply need to disable the slip yoke to keep the driveshaft from falling off.
